One of the things that I love about this box is that you are given spoilers of the next month’s box a week before so that you can decide whether you want to skip a month or not. You can easily skip a month on the Maniology website without penalty. I love the flexibility that this subscription has!

December 2021: Mythical Creatures

For December we received two fantasy and mythical creatures-themed plates, teal blue with a purple sheen and medium grey stamping polishes and a set of three fine striping brushes of various lengths. The designs on these plates include a variety of very detailed fantastical scenes and magical creatures. It’s a good thing that those striping brushes were included, because they are a total game changer for detailed reverse stamping! I usually use a dotting tool, but these brushes really do allow you more control and precision. However, as with all brushes, you run the risk of smudging the base design if you drag too much, so make sure you apply with a dotting motion.

Unfortunately this is the second month in a row now where the plates seem to be etched differently. The designs pick up well (like normal), but they absolutely shred my cotton pads and are challenging to clean. I have since been in contact with Maniology and things will hopefully be going back to normal soon!

Mani #1

For this first mani I wanted to do some low contrast background details with the grey that came in the box, topped with some high contrast reverse stamping! I’m loving this frosty colour scheme!

Mani #2

For this mani I was obsessed with the mushroom design so decided to pair it with a centaur frolicking through the fields of mushrooms, haha.

Final Thoughts

These plates totally fulfill all my magical fantasies! There are so many cool creatures on these plates so I can totally foresee using these designs year round. I also really enjoyed using the medium grey stamping polish for lighter contrast designs, which sometimes a mani just calls for! In addition, those brushes make this box well worth it! You can use them for hand-drawn nail art, striping, as well as reverse stamping!
