Potion Polish Holiday 2021 Collection

Hello everyone! Today I have swatches of the Potion Polish Holiday 2021 Collection*. Who’s ready for some holiday cheer in a bottle? Potion Polish remains one of the most affordable indie brands with some of the most beautiful shades on the market, and this collection is no different! This collection launches November 15th at 6 PM EST. Don’t forget to check out my swatch video of all the shades at the end of this post!

My thoughts on the formula

Overall, I am very happy with the Potion Polish formula. I own at least a dozen shades at this point (purchased and PR) and have never noticed an unusual amount of chipping. For this particular collection I found two coats was all that was needed for full opacity. For those with long nails, you may prefer three coats for the jellies/crellies, but I thought two was fine! The polish self-levelled easily and dried fairly quickly (3-5 minutes). All of the flakies and glitters laid very flat, but the amount of texture definitely varied by shade, with some requiring multiple coats of top coat or a smoothing top coat.

Potion Polish Holiday 2021 Collection

This collection contains seven shades of festive jellies and crellies featuring a ton of holo shreds and microflakes! All are priced at $10.50-11.50 USD.

Gluhwein | $11 USD

Gluhwein is a deep indigo with pink/red shimmer and holo microflakes. Gluhwein is a mulled wine that is definitely reminiscent of the burgundy shimmer you can see shining through this jelly! At extreme angles you can also see some green sparkle, adding that extra festive twist. I’m also obsessed with this shade matte! Here I used two coats and one coat of a glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.

Coffee & Christmas Music | $11.50 USD

Coffee & Christmas Music is a deep warm brown jelly with a sprinkling of gold flakes, holo shreds and a golden shimmer. This might be the most beautiful brown polish ever created? The shade is so deliciously rich! At extreme angles the gold shimmer actually looks a bit green too, a continuing theme! Here I used two coats, one coat of a smoothing top coat and another of a glossy top coat to knock out any texture. The last two pictures show this shade matte.

Festive AF | $10.50 USD

Festive AF is a cranberry red jelly packed with silver holo shreds. The holo shreds in this red jelly are simply stunning when in movement! You absolutely must see this shade in action in my swatching video at the end of this post! Because of the amount of shreds, this shade does end up being quite textured so you will likely want to use a smoothing top coat or multiple coats of your regular QDTC. I thought this shade was slightly reminiscent of Cranberry Fizzy from the Fall 2021 collection so I have included a comparison as well for your reference. Cranberry Fizzy is deeper and has hex glitters instead of shreds. Here I used two coats, two coats of a smoothing top coat and another of a glossy top coat to knock out any texture. The last two pictures show this shade matte.

Under the Tree | $11 USD

Under the Tree is a dark green jelly with red-gold-green shifting shimmer and holo microflakes. This shade is very ‘understated festive’ as it mostly comes off like a deep hunter green but in direct light the red shimmer really comes out. Additionally, at extreme angles you get a very vibrant green next to that red sheen, so pretty! This formula looks so stunning matte as well! Here I used two coats and one coat of a glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.

Elf Crew | $11 USD

Elf Crew is a metallic green with gold/blue/teal shifting shimmer and holo microflakes. This might be one of the showstoppers of the collection! I admit, I was a bit breath taken by this shade! It’s just sooo metallic. I wasn’t able to get it to shift to the blue that you can see in the bottle, but it definitely shifts to teal at extreme angles. Another stunner when matte as well! Here I used two coats and one coat of a glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.

Santa Paws | Charity Polish | $10.50 USD

Santa Paws is a mint green crelly packed with red, green and silver holo shreds. I have to say, I love a mint crelly with a glitter mix during the holidays! I was so obsessed with last year’s release, Holiday Baking, that I ordered it knowing well that it wouldn’t arrive until after the Christmas season was over (so stay tuned for me using it this year!). This shade is certainly similar to Holiday Baking, however, Holiday Baking has a shimmer to it and the glitters are hex or bar glitters, and the shade of mint is slightly different. I have included another comparison photo for your reference. Here I used two coats and one coat of a glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.

** $7 from each bottle sold will go to A Forever Home Rescue Foundation in Chantilly, VA. They are a non-profit dog rescue that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes abused, neglected and abandoned puppies and dogs. Polish will be available through the Holiday season until January 1, 2022. **

Wrapped Presents | $11.50 USD

Wrapped Presents is a yellow gold jelly with red-gold-green shifting shimmer and holo microflakes. In the bottle this shade has more of an obvious red sheen, although it isn’t super strong on the nail. At extreme angles you can definitely see a yellowy-green shift. This shade reminded me of Hello Fall from the Fall 2021 collection so I have included a comparison for your reference. Hello Fall is slightly deeper and has no colour shift to it. Here I used two coats and one coat of a glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.

Thoughts on the Holiday 2021 Collection

Overall, I think this is such a deep and rich take on typical festive shades! I like that you only have one ‘in your face’ holiday shade, whereas the rest really could be worn during any time of the year! I was surprised to find some similar shades to recently released polishes, particularly Hello Fall, but they all definitely differ and you can choose what you prefer best based on the comparison swatches! The formulas as usual were smooth, pigmented and drop dead gorgeous!
