Hey everyone! Today I am sharing with you a round up of the last three months of my Polish Pickup hauls. Time always escapes me, plus my hauls are smaller these days, so these round up hauls are a nice opportunity to pool a few together!
Polish Pickup (PPU) is an online store that offers new indie nail polish, bath and body products, wax, and jewelry from 100+ brands every month, inspired by a different group-chosen theme. All products made each month are limited edition and can only be purchased during the first Friday-Monday of every month, when the PPU shop is open. PPU has a very cool community of makers located all over the world, coming together to sell their super unique products. Most of the information on PPU is in their facebook group, where you can see swatches and reviews of the upcoming products for each month. The one important thing to note is that when you order with PPU, it is effectively a preorder and items purchased won’t be shipped for around three weeks, so you need to be patient!
What I am showing you today are swatches of all the polishes I purchased. Even though these are LE items that can no longer be purchased, a lot of people trade past PPU polishes in this facebook group here. So, if you really fall in love with something you see, it may be possible to still buy it at some point. However, this is also a great opportunity just to showcase some really incredible indie brands that have whole lines of polish that are permanent! Check them out and support small businesses!
February 2021 World Travel
February’s theme allowed us to travel the world in our minds and on our nails, even though it wasn’t possible at the time due to COVID!
Painted Polish Ice Ice Cave-y
Ice Ice Cave-y is a white crelly filled with small white, turquoise, black and gold metallic hex glitters. This shade was inspired by the VATNAJÖKULL Ice Caves in Iceland. This glitter crelly is super fun and is seriously packed with glitters! Here I used two coats, one coat of a glitter smoothing top coat, and one coat of a glossy top coat to smooth things out!
Bluebird Lacquer Tuluminating/Tuluminating 2.0
Tuluminating is an aqua blue holo with a scattering of holo microflakes. This shade was inspired by the clear blue waters of Tulum, Mexico. The first batch of this shade had a formula error, resulting in a much paler blue than advertised. Bluebird Lacquer quickly corrected this error by sending out Tuluminating 2.0 to all customers. Not only was the shade of blue corrected, but I do feel like Tuluminating 2.0 has way more holo microflakes than the original. Honestly, either way this shade is gorgeous, but I was happy to receive the corrected shade as I do feel I had something a bit too similar to the ‘oops’ shade! In my swatches I have used both shades so that you can see the comparison! Tuluminating, the ‘oops’ shade, is on the ring finger and pinky, and Tuluminating 2.0, the corrected shade, is on the pointer and middle fingers. Here I used two coats, one coat of a glitter smoothing top coat, and one coat of a glossy top coat to smooth things out!
Pahlish Crystal Ice Caves
Crystal Ice Caves is a sparkly aqua holographic with a strong green/blue shifting glow. This shade was inspired by Icelandic Ice Caves. This shade actually has a fairly transparent base but is so packed full of flakies that it easily builds up to opacity! I probably should have taken some angled shots to show off that blue glow it has at extreme angles, but alas, I dropped the ball. Here I used two coats, one coat of a glitter smoothing top coat, and one coat of a glossy top coat to smooth things out!
March 2021 Birds, Bees & Butterflies
March’s theme was all about Spring and the animals it brings, which I was all for even if it was still full on Winter for me! I am also a birder, and have always been interested in butterflies, so I did have a vested interest in this month’s theme!
Mindanao is a tri-thermal that shifts from wine red (cold) to cherry red (warm) to orchid purple (hot), with pink-orange-gold iridescent flakies. This shade was inspired by the Philippine Dwarf Kingfisher which lives on the island Mindanao. Wow, the colour combination in this thermal simply blew me away! So unique, and anything inspired by birds has me interested! As usual, this thermal was a bit on the thicker side, but was still easy to work with. Here I used two coats, one coat of a glitter smoothing top coat, and one coat of a glossy top coat to smooth things out!
Different Dimension Antisocial Butterfly
Antisocial Butterfly is a violet jelly polish loaded with orange to red to green aurora shimmers and holographic microflakes. This shade was inspired by the Marpesia butterfly, specifically the purple-stained daggerwing. Honestly, I’m a sucker for any polishes with those holo microflakes and the shimmer combination in this purple was beautiful! Here I used three coats, one coat of a glitter smoothing top coat, and one coat of a glossy top coat to smooth things out!
Bee’s Knees Lacquer Lion with a Thorn in its Paw
Lion with a Thorn in its Paw is a cornflower blue jelly with an orange-gold-green shimmer and holo microflakes. This shade was inspired by the songbird from the Bioshock Games. Here’s another beauty with an incredible colour shift and microflakes! I just can’t help myself! Here I used two coats, one coat of a glitter smoothing top coat, and one coat of a glossy top coat to smooth things out!
Esmaltes da Kelly Occamy
Occamy is a turquoise green-blue-purple multichrome with turquoise and blue iridescent flakies. This shade was inspired by the Occamy from Fantastic Beasts. While this shade would likely build up with three or more coats, I decided to swatch it over black to get the complete effect faster. The base is pretty clear, just with a strong shimmer, so building would take some time. I had already worn this shade over black and it is and was so so stunning, and with only one coat! To my eye the dominant colour is actually quite green, but you definitely get blue and a strong purple at extreme angles. Here I used one coat over black, one coat of a glitter smoothing top coat, and one coat of a glossy top coat to smooth things out!
April 2021 The Nineties
April’s theme was all about 90s nostalgia. Because I was quite young during the 90s, I don’t feel a ton of nostalgia, although had there been a Buffy the Vampire Slayer polish, I would have been all over it! I decided to just get one shade, based on the colour and not the inspiration! Sentiment didn’t push me to buy this time!
Trolls is a light mint-blue crelly filled with different shapes and sizes of neon pink, neon yellow, neon green and orange glitters. This shade was inspired by the infamous Trolls dolls with all their different colours of crazy hair! For April I was actually trying to mostly do a no-buy, but I decided purchasing one polish wouldn’t be too bad, and this one was too cute to pass by! This shade is so bright and so fun! Here I used three coats, one coat of a glitter smoothing top coat, and one coat of a glossy top coat to smooth things out!
I hope you enjoyed seeing all these shades together as much as I did! Until next time! As usual, May’s order is on it’s way, and I can’t wait to get it!!
