Hey everyone! Today I am sharing with you a round up of the last two months of my Polish Pickup hauls. Things got a bit delayed here with Nailmas so again I am grouping a couple of months together. However, this post isn’t nearly as long as the last one with four months!!
Polish Pickup (PPU) is an online store that offers new indie nail polish, bath and body products, wax, and jewelry from 100+ brands every month, inspired by a different group-chosen theme. All products made each month are limited edition and can only be purchased during the first Friday-Monday of every month, when the PPU shop is open. PPU has a very cool community of makers located all over the world, coming together to sell their super unique products. Most of the information on PPU is in their facebook group, where you can see swatches and reviews of the upcoming products for each month. The one important thing to note is that when you order with PPU, it is effectively a preorder and items purchased won’t be shipped for around three weeks, so you need to be patient!
What I am showing you today are swatches of all the polishes I purchased. Even though these are LE items that can no longer be purchased a lot of people trade past PPU polishes in this facebook group here. So, if you really fall in love with something you see, it may be possible to still buy it at some point. However, this is also a great opportunity just to showcase some really incredible indie brands that have whole lines of polish that are permanent! Check them out and support small businesses! When has there been a better time?
October 2020 Animation
Polish Molish A Kitten Named Woof
A Kitten Named Woof is a bright pumpkin orange jelly with gold flakes and matte bright blue glitters. This shade was inspired by the Soviet animated series of the same name. I am head over heels in love with this unusual combination. This shade builds up beautifully. Polish Molish is a new brand to me, and I am intrigued to try more of their shades. In fact, I will probably purchase their shade in the upcoming PPU in January. Here I used two coats and two coats of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
Fair Maiden Cat & Mouse
Cat & Mouse is a taupe-mauve with red-orange shifting flakies and aurora shimmer. This shade was inspired by the Tom & Jerry. This is a beautiful shade that starts out sheer but builds nicely with as little as two coats. I love the contrast of the mauve with the warm-toned flakies. And mmm.. mmm.. mmm… look at those flakies when matte! Here I used two coats and two coats of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
By Dany Vianna Card Captor Sakura
Card Captor Sakura is a thermal that shifts from warm pink (cold) to white (warm) and is filled with gold flakies and a scattering of small red glitters. This shade was inspired by the Japanese manga series Cardcaptor Sakura. This is such a beautiful feminine shade that will be so perfect for Spring and Valentine’s day! I also really like that the red glitters don’t overwhelm the formula. Here I used two coats and two coats of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
Ethereal Lacquer Here to Fight with Elegance
Here to Fight with Elegance is a blue base full of iridescent blue, green and aqua color shifting flakes and micro holographic flakies. This shade was inspired by Sailor Neptune from Sailor Moon. This is a shade that I was very excited by, because it looked so ultra reflective in the swatch photos. And it is really pretty, but the formula is not great. It is extremely thick, making it unpleasant to apply. I’m sure I’ll find uses for it in the future, but I doubt I will buy anything from this brand again. Here I used two coats and two coats of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
Black Dahlia Lacquer Flotsam & Jetsam
Flotsam & Jetsam is a bright turquoise jelly with shifting iridescent glitter, dark blue shimmer and a strong green/blue/purple shift. This shade was inspired by Ursula’s minions Flotsam and Jetsam from the Little Mermaid. This is such a beautiful turquoise with a purple-y blue shift at the extreme edge of the nails. The glitter mix is what really makes this shade, although it does add some extra texture. My only serious problem with this polish is the bottle is so awkward. It is very skinny, and very tall so it makes it very easy to knock over. The brush is also extremely long, so polish gathers on the stick part above the bristles more than it would on a usual brush, so you have to be very careful during application because it will hold more polish than you are used to and continually drip down, flooding the nail. These may seem like small things, but they are irritants that will probably stop me from buying from this brand again, unfortunately. Here I used two coats and two coats of glossy top coat. This shade probably could have used a third layer of top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
Bee’s Knees Lacquer I Want to Be the Very Best
I Want to Be the Very Best is an emerald green to deep blue shifting multichrome with sapphire shimmer and holo flakies. This shade was inspired by the Pokémon theme song. I love how shifty this shade is. For the most part it is a delicious metallic emerald green, but in some lights you can really see that blue come through. In my personal opinion, multichromes are always made better with holo flakies! Here I used two coats and one coat of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
November 2020 Red Carpet
Sassy Sauce Polish Who Are You Wearing?
Who Are You Wearing? is a raspberry linear holo with red-pink-coral shifting ghost flakies and a scattering of bright pink holo glitter. This pink has all the flakies and glitters! I often find linear holos boring, but there is no way this one could be will all those additional sparkly elements! Here I used two coats and two coats of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
My Indie Polish Envious Glare
Envious Glare is a lime green jelly with five different sizes and shapes of holographic pigments and glitters and a tiny touch of flakies. Here’s another polish with all the meat and potatoes! Clearly I’m into near-glitter bombs lately. Here I used three coats and two coats of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
Turtle Tootsie Polishes Emerald Diva
Emerald Diva is a dark emerald green metallic with holo shimmer, gold micro glitter, gold flakies and gold shimmer. This shade was inspired by Kate Winslet’s emerald green dress at the 1998 Academy Awards. Something that my collection was lacking was some good emerald greens, and this one absolutely fit the bill. Here I used two coats and two coats of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
Bluebird Lacquer The Ryan King
The Ryan King is a deep hunter green jelly with a large amount of scattered holo microflakies. This shade was inspired by Ryan Gosling’s hunter green suit at the 2018 screening of the film First Man. This was the shade that was the absolute must have from November! Oh man is this green sparkly! I have already worn it twice, so that tells you how much I love it. Here I used three coats and one coat of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
Smile is a thermal that shifts from dark hunter green (cold) to sage green (warm) with gold ultra chrome chameleon flakies. This shade was inspired by Katy Perry’s sage green dress at the 2013 Grammy Awards. I am always a huge fan of Cadillacquer’s thermals and this one was no different! The gold flakies in here also seem extra metallic making this shade doubly impressive. Here I used two coats and two coats of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
Painted Polish Rainbow Glam
Rainbow Glam is a black jelly with a rainbow of color-shifting metallic flakies and micro holographic flakies with a subtle shimmer. This shade was inspired by Janelle Monáe’s rainbow gown from the 2018 BET Awards. Something that I realized around Halloween was that my collection lacks any interesting black shades. I really love the variety of flakies in this polish, it really does add something special. This was actually the polish I showcased in my NYE mani. Here I used three coats and two coats of glossy top coat. The last two pictures show this shade matte.
I hope you enjoyed seeing all these shades together as much as I did! Until next time! Also, December is going to be majorly delayed as I believe it hasn’t even shipped yet, but that’s ok!
