Tower 28 Beauty ShineOn Lip Jelly | Review + Swatches

Hey everyone! Today I am bringing you a review of one of my Sephora sale purchases, a surprisingly inexpensive lip gloss! The first time I heard about Tower 28 Beauty was when they sent a PR package to Lauren Mae Beauty and she said some pretty nice things about their products. When I saw that they were on Sephora, were very affordable, and had an orange lip gloss, I decided to go for it! Remember how I said that I am all of a sudden obsessed with finding a sheer orange gloss from my latest Clarins Lip Oil review? Here we go again!

Packaging and First Impressions

This lip gloss comes in a transparent plastic component. The appearance is more on the drugstore side of things, but I think the clear acrylic packaging looks fairly modern. The applicator is a typical small, paddle doe-foot. This gloss has no scent, which surprised me since when do glosses ever NOT have a scent? However, upon further research, Tower 28 Beauty is a brand that is specifically designed to be non-toxic and for sensitive skin, so it makes sense that no additional and potentially sensitizing scent ingredients were added.

This gloss comes in six different sheer shades, including clear, pinks, red and orange. I purchased the shade “Fire”, which is a sheer orange creme.

Claims

“Jelly = the shine of a gloss, the comfort of a balm, + a pop of color. For never sticky, always shiny lips! Regular lip balms can leave you with dull, dry lips. With ShineOn, get ready for soft, glossy lips with a juicy pop of color.

Traditional lip gloss coats lips with a layer of shine, but can end up leaving lips dry underneath. Pass on that, thanks. ShineOn is a moisturizing lip treatment formulated with a unique blend of 5 nourishing oils to soothe and protect lips. ShineOn and on and on!”

Price and Quantity

This gloss is priced at $18 CAD ($14 USD) and has 0.13 oz of product.

For price comparisons I chose higher end glosses that come in a cream finish (no shimmer or glitter) and are meant to be sheer. I also chose to include glosses that were labelled as lip oils, since the claims of this gloss include the fact that it has many oils in it to nourish the lips.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Product  Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 NARS Oil-Infused Lip Tint $34 0.28 $121/oz
2 Tower 28 ShineOn Lip Jelly $18 0.13 $138/oz
3 Buxom Full On Lip Cream $24 0.14 $171/oz
4 Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-Infused Gloss $36 0.2 $180/oz
5 Dior Addict Stellar Lip Gloss $39 0.21 $186/oz
6 BareMinerals GEN NUDE™ Buttercream Lipgloss $25 0.13 $192/oz
7 Tarte SEA H2O Lip Gloss $26 0.14 $193/oz
8 Hourglass Unreal™ High Shine Volumizing Lip Gloss $40 0.2 $200/oz
9 Dior Lip Glow Oil $45 0.2 $225/oz
10 Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre Lip Gloss $28 0.12 $233/oz
11 Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lipgloss $38 0.16 $238/oz
12 Kosas Wet Lip Oil Gloss $36 0.15 $240/oz
13 Pat McGrath Lust Lip Gloss $37 0.15 $247/oz
14 Clarins Lip Comfort Oil $28 0.1 $280/oz
15 Lilah B. Lovingly Lip™ Tinted Lip Oil $40 0.1 $400/oz

I am definitely not surprised that this gloss has a great value, given the low purchase price. I think this gloss has great value, especially for something that is offered at Sephora!

Pigmentation and Performance

Guys, I love this gloss! This might be my favourite sheer, creme gloss formula, ever!

The pigmentation of this gloss is decent. It is just enough to give you a sheer wash and your lips a bit of life. I love this orange shade. It is more of a blood orange, and compared to the Clarins Lip Oil in “Tangerine”, which is lighter with more yellow. The difference on the lips is minimal.

As for formula, like I said this formula is exceptional. It has literally NO stickiness to it at all. It maybe feels the tiniest bit sticky when it starts to wear down, but honestly it is one of the most comfortable glosses I have ever tried. The formula is on the thinner side, and quite honestly feels similar to the Clarins Lip Oil I just reviewed. This may be a dupe? Plus, the look on the lips is extra shiny. My favourite glosses to date are the Fenty Gloss Bombs, Becca Glow Glosses, and most recently the Clarins Lip Oil. This formula is right up there with those faves, and it is so much less expensive! I would absolutely be happy to purchase more shades of this gloss, and will most likely do so.

Final Thoughts

This is easily one of the most affordable glosses at Sephora, and one of the best formulas available. I think if you are looking for a new gloss, this should be your next buy. Its popularity is clear too, given that almost all the shades are sold out on Sephora currently and it has great reviews. Once all the shades come back in stock, I’m likely going to go ahead and purchase the hot pink and red shades.

Have you tried anything from Tower 28 Beauty? I’m definitely very interested in the brand after this first good experience!

  1. I know this brand very well (and have actually spoken to the founder for work purposes – she’s lovely by the way!), and I have two of these lip jellies. You’re absolutely right, they’re so good! Absolutely no stickiness at all and the wear-down is so natural. I think they’re a total winner for the price.
