Hey everyone! Happy quarantine day number.. whatever. At least I’m getting more blogging done.. Gotta look on the bright side right?? A great distraction has been using this little Sweet Violet palette from Violet Voss. I ordered this in January and literally didn’t start using it until last week. What is my problem?? Well, boy am I glad I finally test drove this baby! So let’s get into it.
Packaging and First Impressions
This palette is a cardboard palette covered with purple and lilac plaid with beautiful glossy violet flowers. The packaging is so adorable. Inside you have a small mirror, and 10 shades in small square pans. To give you an idea of size, the pans are just a tiny bit smaller than ABH pans, so really they aren’t too tiny.
The shades in this palette range from peaches to warmer fuchsias and violet purples. The split between mattes and metallics is equal with five of each, and although it isn’t stated explicitly, I suspect some of the mattes are actually pressed pigments.
Claims
“A beautiful assortment of fun-size eyeshadow palettes with serious pigment.
These carefully created colors create day-to-night looks with one palette or can all be used for a fun variety of looks and finishes. They provide so much color and fun in the palm of your hands. Each fun-size palette complements the others with a variety of 10 richly pigmented mattes, creamy foils, metallic magic, and satin sheens. These compact palettes are the perfect size to pop into your travel bag or handbag.”
Shades
The shades in this palette are not named or described, so I am going to do my best to describe them for you. I have named all the shades in the top row T1-T5 and the bottom row B1-B5 to make this section clearer and at the end when I am describing the performance of each shade.
T1: Pale yellow beige matte
T2: Bright peachy metallic with peach shimmer
T3: Hot fuchsia metallic with a blue flip
T4: Hot fuchsia matte (pressed pigment?)
T5: Warm violet metallic with a pink-purple flip
B1: Light lavender matte
B2: Purple metallic with pink shimmer
B3: Blue-violet metallic with silvery shimmer
B4: Warm violet matte (pressed pigment?)
B5: Indigo-purple matte (pressed pigment?)
Price and Quantity
This palette is priced at $24 CAD ($18 USD) and has 0.42 oz of product. If you aren’t familiar with the typical amount of product included in eyeshadow palettes, you might not realize that this palette is SUCH a good deal! The typical amount of eyeshadow in a full-sized palette usually ranges from 0.4-0.5 oz. So in this mini palette, you are essentially getting as much shadow as in a full-sized palette for easily half the price!
I have noticed over the years Violet Voss palettes are priced very well for the amount of product you get, and this one is no different. Below I have compared this palette’s value to other high end palettes with an almost all purple colour scheme. There aren’t a ton of them, but there are some!
Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:
Rank | Product | Cost ($ CAD) |
Quantity (oz) | Number of Shades | Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product |
1 | Violet Voss Fun Sized Mini Palettes | $24 | 0.42 | 10 | $57/oz |
2 | Viseart Theory Palettes | $60 | 0.78 | 6 | $77/oz |
3 | Huda Beauty Amethyst Obsessions | $36 | 0.36 | 9 | $100/oz |
4 | Fenty Snap Shadows | $33 | 0.21 | 6 | $157/oz |
5 | Huda Beauty Pastel Obsessions | $37 | 0.21 | 9 | $176/oz |
Pigmentation and Performance
Overall, I have almost nothing bad to say about this palette. It is so good, and has such good value!!
The mattes in this palette are flawless in my opinion! They all have good to great pigmentation, are blendable, and build well! I’d say the only shade that doesn’t have INTENSE pigmentation is the lavender, but it is a pastel shade so that is to be expected. You really wouldn’t expect that kind of shade to be bam in your face anyways. But it is absolutely buildable.
I do suspect that a few of the mattes are pressed pigments, and unfortunately the packaging and website do not make it clear which are which. My suspicion is that all of the deeper purples/fuchsias are pressed pigments. The shades T4 and B4 both left staining on the lid. I couldn’t really tell if B5 did because it was layered on top of shades that do stain. I didn’t experience eye irritation of any kind with these shades, so I believe staining is hopefully the only side effect for most.
The metallics seem to come with two different finishes: smooth or sparkly. The sparkly ones seem to have some extra microshimmer or glitter in them, giving them a super reflective, metallic and shiny appearance on the eye. The two purples that had this finish, B2 and B3 both took a little more effort building up because they felt a little harder-pressed. But with a glitter glue and some determination, they turned out SO beautiful on the eye. The peachy shade, T2 also seemed to have this sparkly finish, but was not pressed as hard so was super easy to build. The other smooth formula (T3 and T5) did not have that added sparkle, but were more like a classic metallic, sometimes with a duochrome flip. These ones built a bit easier, but I still recommend using a glitter glue to really make them pop.
Below are three eye looks that I created, detailing my experience with each shadow.
Shades Used
B4: Crease. This is a very pigmented slightly warm violet matte. It blended very smoothly, built up well, and was very pigmented. I believe this shade left staining on my lid, so it may be a pressed pigment.
B1: Transition. This is a fairly pigmented lavender that really helped blend out my transition. As you can see it made the blend very smooth.
B5: Outer corner. This is a deep indigo purple that is also very pigmented. It added a nice amount of depth and blended easily.
B2: Inner lid. This is a metallic purple with some added pink shimmer. In person it is very sparkly. This shade felt like it was pressed a little hard so it did take a bit of work to build up, but it did build up well on top of a glitter glue.
B3: Center lid. This is blue-violet metallic again with extra shimmer that I really can’t tell the colour of. I guess silver? It doesn’t come off as silver on the eye, just literally looks sparkly. This shade was also quite packed down, so it took work to build up, but once built up, it was so stunningly reflective and glittery on the eye!
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in the shade “Psychedelic Sister” is on the waterline.
Shades Used
T4: Crease. This is a VERY pigmented fuchsia matte. I feel this shade must be a pressed pigment. Even though it was so pigmented, I really didn’t have any issues blending it up into the crease/transition area. This shade did leave staining on my lid.
T1: Transition. This beige matte doesn’t have much colour to it, but it works really well to help finish off a blend. This kind of a shade is super helpful in my opinion.
B4: Outer corner.
T3: Inner lid. This is a smoother fuchsia metallic with a blue flip to it. It doesn’t have any of that added sparkle that I mentioned previously with the metallics in the bottom row. But it did look nice and metallic on the eye and it built up easily when packed on top of glitter glue. I think it was a bit easier to build than those sparkly shades as well.
T5: Center lid. This is a slightly warm purple metallic with the same smooth texture. The metallic shine is more of a straight up purple, rather than a duochrome.

Shades Used
B1: Crease.
T4: Outer and inner corners.
T1: Transition.
T2: Center lid. This is a peachy metallic that almost takes on a pinky tone when put alongside these pinky purples. This metallic seems to be looser pressed than the rest of them, and therefore super easy to apply and takes almost no building at all. It is also the brightest and most reflective out of all of them. So stunning!

Final Thoughts
Overall, I think this palette is such a steal!! Only $24 for essentially a full-sized palette? And a super well-performing palette at that?! If you love purples, you really can’t go wrong with this palette. Honestly, I’m surprised by how good it is since I didn’t have a 100% positive experience with Flamingo. Last year I was also super tempted by Coral Crush, but was concerned it would have some issues similar to Flamingo. Well now I know, Violet can do a bomb-ass formula!
This palette looks so beautiful, I love the purple shades and it’s nice to know that for the price, the formula is great!! also, love your eye looks too xx

Such a beautiful palette, you’ve created some lovely looks. If only I was brave enough to wear purples, I usually stick to browns and oranges. x
