August Glam Nails Challenge | Stained Glass

Hey everyone! For the month of August I have decided to participate in a nail art challenge hosted by Bianka,@nbnailart. Bianka seems to host nail art challenges every month, also under the dedicated account @glamnailschallenge. I absolutely love the quality of the manis this girl creates, so I’m excited to participate in this latest challenge!

The fourth prompt for this challenge was Stained Glass. Now this prompt definitely made me think. I had never considered doing a stained glass design, and I wasn’t sure if there was a certain technique you could do, or just a pattern. However, when I was looking at my stamping plates, I came across the perfect design! I have always been a sucker for florals, and the What’s Up Nails B018 Fields of Flowers plate had just the design I was looking for (top left).

This full-nail rounded rose pattern definitely makes me think of stained glass, that might be seen in Beauty and the Beast! So this was the design I focused on, however, I decided to use some more interesting colours than regular reds and greens. This mani features the majority of the polishes from Zoya’s Sensual Fall 2019 collection, so here’s your first sneak peek before I post my swatches from that collection!

  1. For this manicure, I started by applying my favourite base coat, Orly Bonder, to all of my nails.
  2. I painted all of my nails black (China Glaze Liquid Leather), in case the stamped pattern didn’t cover my nail precisely.
  3. I then used the What’s Up Nails B018 Fields of Flowers stamping plate to do reverse stamping for each nail with the rounded rose pattern from the plate. I used a black stamping polish (Born Pretty #3) to transfer the design on to my favourite XL jelly stamper (What’s Up Nails) and I filled in the flowers with different shades from the Zoya Sensual Fall 2019 collection (Briar, Margaret, Rashida, Ripley, Michaela, Vesper, Elliot). The surrounding sections I decided to make leaves, and used three different green polishes (Essie Mojito Madness, China Glaze Paper Chasing, KL Polish Mojito). After letting the design dry on the stamper, I applied liquid latex to my cuticle (Edge Perfection Easy Peel Polish Barrier), and transferred the design on to the nail. Voila!
  4. I finished off the mani by applying the Maniology No Smudge Nail Polish Top Coat (Use code SUPERNOVA10 to save 10% off Maniology purchases (affiliate)), followed by my regular glossy top coat (Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat).

I think this mani actually turned out pretty nicely. It’s different from anything I’ve ever done, but all the differently coloured sections of the pattern definitely have a stained glass vibe!

Loving this mani? Check out my last mani for this August Glam Nails Challenge!
