Wow! or Waste? Huda Beauty The New Nude Eyeshadow Palette

Hey everyone! Welcome back to Wow! or Waste? Whether a whole collection has been launched, or just a new product, I’m going to evaluate whether each product is either a Wow! buy or a Waste? of money, in terms of the price and the amount of product you get.

This time around we are evaluating the new Huda Beauty The New Nude Eyeshadow Palette, which is currently available on the Huda Beauty website and at Sephora.

“Anyone that knows me knows that I’m obsessed with enhancing natural beauty. So, when I wear a nude eye, I feel confident and sexy. Makeup is about pleasing yourself before anyone else, there’s nothing sexier, or more empowering, than amplifying your own unique gifts—it’s something that is fun and experimental.”—Huda Kattan, Brand Founder and CEO

Price and Quantity

This eyeshadow palette is priced at $85 CAD ($65 USD) and has 0.69 oz of product. Now das esspensive.

The full sized Huda Beauty palettes are always $85 CAD, however, they do vary in the amount of product. Usually I would think that this is a bit of a scam, and that perhaps the pan sizes were shallower in some palettes, but I think for the Huda Beauty palettes it can be excused for one reason. Huda really varies her formula between palettes, and the amount of certain formulas that are included. It seems like she is constantly reformulating things, and different formulas may very well have different weights. For example, the Rose Gold Remastered palette has 9 mattes, 8 metallics, and 1 pressed pearl. Each of these components very likely have a different weight, so that palette on a whole may have a good reason to vary from the New Nude, which has 10 mattes, four “reflective shades”, two glitters and one pressed pearl. See what I mean?

In any case, for the price comparisons I have included larger eyeshadow palettes that are on the nude to pink side, as well as the other larger Huda Beauty palettes, for interest’s sake.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Product Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Number of Shades Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Pretty Vulgar Early Bird $43 0.55 12 $78/oz
2 Tarte Tartelette in Bloom $60 0.64 12 $94/oz
3 Huda Beauty Desert Dusk $85 0.89 18 $96/oz
4 Too Faced Natural Eyes $48 0.45 9 $107/oz
5 Tarte Love, Trust & Fairy Dust $49 0.42 11 $117/oz
6 Huda Beauty The New Nude $85 0.69 18 $123/oz
7 Urban Decay Naked Cherry $66 0.46 12 $143/oz
8 Huda Beauty Rose Gold Remastered $85 0.59 188 $144/oz
9 Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina $55 0.28 14 $196/oz

Wow! or Waste?

Ranking in sixth place, this palette is definitely a Waste? in terms of the value for the amount of money you are spending. This isn’t altogether surprising since Huda’s palettes are certainly more expensive. BUT, her smaller Obsessions palettes are actually an incredibly good value (compared to the chart above, they are priced at $60/oz). So, if you are looking for good value and are happy to get a smaller palette, I would absolutely suggest her smaller Obsessions palettes, such as the Mauve Obsessions, which will have the most similar shades to this colour scheme.

Overall, value isn’t all your decision is based on when deciding whether to purchase something or not. Many of us don’t hit pan on eyeshadow palettes, especially when there are 18 shades! But when an item has a great value, it can definitely help me decide to go ahead and purchase. I mainly wanted to cover this palette today because I am pretty interested in purchasing it, but first wanted to see the value. I think the colour scheme is really beautiful, but I do worry about being able to build adequate depth with the shades that are included. What do you think? I need help deciding whether I should get this or not!!!

Well that’s all for today’s Wow! or Waste? Were you thinking about purchasing this palette? Will you go through with it now that you know its value? Should I get it?! Comment down below!

    1. That’s fair enough! This is another nude palette in a sea of nudes, but I just gravitate towards this colour scheme. I recently decluttered a lot of my more nude or basic palettes, so this one appealed to me now that I don’t really have something like this in my collection.

  1. Awesome post! This palette looks so incredibly beautiful. I honestly still can’t decide if I want it or not. I have a few of her Obsessions Palettes and I really love those. I may just stick to that.

  2. It lols beautiful and I don’t think
I hold back the pennies where makeup
Is concerned but I’m concerned the looks are a bit limited because of all the nude tones

    1. I can totally understand that concern. I did actually end up buying this palette, and I just posted my review today with six looks. So in that post you can tell how versatile it can actually be. But most looks will likely be pink/berry-toned.

  3. I just bought this!! I think it’s gorgeous and truthfully, I’m never going to use that much eyeshadow so I’m not looking too much at the value. I mean…. it has to be worth it to me! But like you said there are many ways to assess value and if it’s worth buying for you!
