Hey everyone! A couple of weeks ago I received the most surprising and wonderful package: a PR package from Pixi Beauty! This package contained their whole MatteLast Liquid Lip line, which I am going to review here for you today. Isn’t that exciting?
If you are wondering how I pulled this off, Pixi Beauty actually has a Brand Ambassador form on their website that you can fill out in order to be considered for review opportunities. I filled out this form way back in May, so I was super surprised to get a package in September! You can find a link to this form on their Contact Us page.
Let’s get into this review!
Packaging and First Impressions
These liquid lipsticks come in a shorter double-walled plastic tube with a light green cap and rose gold detailing. I love that the packaging is double-walled, it makes them look very high-end. Inside, the doe-foot applicator is a loop that comes to a point. These liquid lipsticks have a slight lemon scent.
These liquid lipsticks come in 11 shades ranging from extremely nude to hot pinks, oranges and berries. Pixi is actually currently holding a contest for someone to create the 12th shade. Anyone can participate in this contest, however, it will be easier for those of us who received the PR package, as we also received a colour mixing kit specifically for the contest. For more information, you can visit this page.
I haven’t created my shade yet, but I will soon! It will likely be something that is pumpkin/fall-inspired… Watch out for it on my instagram!
Claims
Here are the claims from the Pixi Beauty website:
• “Extremely longwearing & comfortable, infused with rosehip oil
• Quickly sets to a matte veil while leaving lips hydrated
• Colours are universally flattering and wearable
• Colour applies smoothly and uniformly in a single stroke
• Unique Pixi Petal applicator provides even and precise application
• Not tested on animals
• Paraben free”
Price and Quantity
These liquid lipsticks are priced at £16 in the UK, $14 USD at Target and $20 USD at Shopper’s Drug Mart and each contains 0.24 oz of product.
While I don’t usually compare the prices of drugstore products because prices can be so variable between retailers, Pixi is sold in Canada exclusively by Shopper’s Drug Mart, so $20 is the only price you will find them at. Also, because Pixi is pretty close to high end prices, let’s just go ahead and compare to other high end liquid lipsticks, since those prices never seem to vary between retailers.
Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:
Rank | Product | Cost ($ CAD) |
Quantity (oz) | Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product |
1 | Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick | $25 | 0.4 | $63/oz |
2 | Pixi Beauty MatteLast Liquid Lip | $20 | 0.24 | $83/oz |
3 | Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick | $24 | 0.22 | $109/oz |
4 | Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick | $26 | 0.17 | $153/oz |
5 | bareMinerals GEN NUDE Liquid Lipstick | $23 | 0.13 | $177/oz |
6 | Smashbox Always on Matte Liquid Lipstick | $28 | 0.13 | $215/oz |
7 | Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick | $26 | 0.11 | $236/oz |
8 | Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick | $29 | 0.1 | $290/oz |
As expected, these liquid lipsticks are a much better deal than actual high end products, with the exception of the Too Faced Melted Mattes, which include a huge amount of product. So, are these Pixi liquid lipsticks as good as high end liquid lipsticks?
Pigmentation and Performance
Overall, I think that these are some really nice liquid lipsticks.
In terms of pigmentation, most of them are really impressive. Some that came across to me as really incredible were Really Rose, Evening Rose and Real Red. The pigmentation of that red is truly unbelievable, and it might be the best shade of the bunch. Some that seemed a tiny bit thinner were the more neon shades, Prettiest Pink and Orange Red. They were still good shades but maybe required a couple passes to get full pigmentation. Of the whole line, only one shade struck me as not being very good, and that was Berry Boost. It has a thinness that the rest don’t. The base pigment is like a sheer pink, and it is just very difficult to get opaque pigmentation and an even application.
Here are some swatches of the shades. We will go through each shade one by one shortly.
In terms of application, I found it really easy to use their Pixi Petal doefoot applicator. The pointed tip made it very easy to apply precisely, and I’ve never had to use a lipliner with these lipsticks. In fact, I never use a lip liner, ever.
Once applied, these lipsticks definitely dry down to be very matte, and have minimal transfer. Although these liquid lipsticks claim to be comfortable and hydrating, I still find them a bit drying for my already dry lips, so I prefer to wear a bit of lip balm under them at all times. When applied over lip balm the lipsticks still set down to a matte finish, it just takes a bit longer.
It terms of longevity, I find that these liquid lipsticks have an average to good wear time. These are not the kind of liquid lipsticks that cement down onto your lips and dry the ever-loving crap out of them, which are the ones that have incredible lasting power. These Pixi liquid lipsticks are the kind that are slightly more comfortable, but the trade off is that their lasting time isn’t quite as good. But it’s still pretty good. You won’t necessarily make it through a meal untouched, but through some drinks you’ll still be looking pretty good. The best part is that with wear these lipsticks don’t crumble, they just wear away.
So let’s go through each of the shades! For each one I have a hand swatch, lip swatch, and a full face photo of me wearing the shade. You will notice that in the lip swatches I haven’t let them dry down to a complete matte, because I applied on top of some lip balm. Like I said, it just takes a little longer for them to dry down with balm underneath.
Au Naturelle
Au Naturelle is a medium peachy pink. This shade has great pigmentation.
Bare Beauty
Bare Beauty is a pale peachy beige nude. This shade has pretty good pigmentation. This is a very light nude, and is not necessarily a shade I would wear on the daily for my skin tone.
Matte Beige
Matte Beige is a light neutral beige. This shade has great pigmentation.
Pastel Petal
Pastel Petal is a light pink. This shade has great pigmentation and looks pretty similar to Matte Beige, it is just a bit more pink.
Really Rose
Really Rose is a medium rose. This shade has great pigmentation and is so pretty for daily wear!
Evening Rose
Evening Rose is a deeper mauve pink. This shade has great pigmentation and is my kind of shade! This might be one of my favourite shades out of the bunch.
Peony Pink
Peony Pink is a medium pink-purple. This shade has great pigmentation and really reminds me of ZZ from Urban Decay, which is a shade that I used to wear a couple of years ago. I’m not sure I would wear it these days now that I like to do more intense eye makeup, but it’s a lot of fun!
Prettiest Pink
Prettiest Pink is a hot fuchsia pink. This shade has pretty good pigmentation, but takes the tiniest bit more work than the others. This shade is so fun and pretty! I love a hot pink in the summer!
Orange Red
Orange Red is a hot, well.., orange red. This shade has pretty good pigmentation, but takes the tiniest bit more work than the others, similar to Prettiest Pink. I have never owned a shade of red like this! This would be stunning in the summer! This shade totally reminds me of Kathleen Lights since she is obsessed with orange reds.
Real Red
Real Red is a true blue red. This is the shade that has the most incredible pigmentation! I don’t know if it’s just because it is a red that it is so impressive, but it is something special!
Berry Boost
Berry Boost is a medium berry red. As you can see in the swatch, this shade is a bit thinner and the pigmentation is not opaque. This is the least impressive shade in the range, and I found it difficult to get an even application on the lips.
Final Thoughts
This is a great range of affordable liquid lipsticks that on the whole, perform really well. In the claims, they state that the shades are universally flattering and wearable, and I think that that is pretty true! I usually think I can get away with most shades, except for Barbie pinks and concealer nudes, so I think the only shade that isn’t that flattering on me is Bare Beauty.
Besides the mostly amazing pigmentation, these liquid lipsticks are relatively comfortable, especially with a bit of balm underneath, and are pretty long wearing! If you love a matte look, you should definitely consider these as a more affordable option!
Have you tried these Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lips? What is your favourite shade?

Congrats on the Brand Ambassadorship! I’ve heard these are pretty good liquid lips, but unfortunately Pixi is no longer stocked in my local Target so it’s become a bit harder for me to get 😔.

Thank you so much! That is such a bummer! I wonder why that is, did they leave all Targets? I wonder how easy it is to order their products online.. Hopefully they’ll come back to your location!

I don’t think they left all Targets, but perhaps in mine they weren’t selling well? Not sure. They’re definitely still available online but I just don’t do a lot of online makeup shopping; I like the in-store experience better!

I can totally understand that! What a bummer! Maybe there’s another target near you that has them
