Hey everyone! Yesterday I attended the latest Sephora event, held for Rouge members only.
If you don’t already know, VIB Rouge is the highest tier in the membership hierarchy at Sephora. To achieve VIB Rouge status, you have to spend $1000 CAD in one calendar year at Sephora. I’ve been Rouge for about a year and a half now, and I am renewed through till the end of 2019… That’s right, I’ve already spent enough for it to be renewed for the next year too. Oopsies?
A couple times a year Sephora hosts exclusive events for VIB Rouge members only. At this point I have been to about 6 Sephora events. These events are usually advertised as a “private shopping event”, and I have often found them underwhelming and borderline a waste of time. This is mostly because Sephora is never as busy as it is when these events are happening! The store is easily at capacity during these events, so it makes no sense for it to be labelled as an exclusive shopping event. Because who prefers to shop at a store when it is busier than usual..? Sometimes during these events there are contests, free bites and drinks, but I have noticed that the perks have really decreased over time. So much so that I didn’t even cover the last Sephora event on my blog, because it was just as underwhelming as the last time.
HOWEVER, the event to watch for is the Holiday Preview!!! These events are usually an opportunity to preview and purchase items before they go on sale to the general public. Now this is what I am interested in, an actual perk!
If you are a VIB Rouge, when an event is coming up, Sephora will e-mail you to let you know that one is approaching and that you need to RSVP if you would like to attend. RSVPs are not open right away when they send this e-mail, they tell you a time and date when they do open. However, it is usually very quick after you receive the e-mail, sometimes the day before or on the same day as the RSVPs open, so make sure that you are on top of your e-mails from Sephora! As soon as the RSVPs open, it is imperative that you RSVP immediately. They only have so much room at these events so you need to make sure that you reserve your spot. Additionally, you can bring one friend to this event, regardless of their Sephora rank.
In the e-mail there is often a tease of the products that will be available to you for preview. However the products that you will see in store can vary from the e-mail teasers. There is also always a swag bag that you can get if you spend over $50-60. These bags are usually quite good, filled with samples of skin care products and makeup products. The samples are usually deluxe sized.
This event started at 8:30 am, so I made sure to get to the mall for around 8 so that I could be the first to look at the items available for purchase. Getting there early for the Holiday Preview is important since they will only have a limited stock of the items in store, and I promise you there will be a line up to get in! I actually ended up getting to the mall way earlier than planned, 7:30 am and I was actually there before most of the employees. Haha, embarrassing!😅 But I was the first in line so that was worth it for the peace of mind.
If you have read any of my past Sephora Event posts, you will know that things have been going downhill. BUT they majorly stepped up their game with this event! There were multiple types of scones (PUMPKIN!!) and Starbucks coffee! I guess they knew the early morning event was a struggle and required sustenance.
So let’s do a brief overview of the items that were available for preview, and are available now online for Rouge members.
Price: $29 CAD ($52 CAD value) or $25 USD ($45 USD value)
What it is: A set of mini Amuse Bouche Lipsticks in four shades: three bestsellers and one limited edition.
This set contains: 4 x 0.05 oz/ 1.55 g Mini Amuse Bouche Lipsticks in Sake (dusty mauve), Nori (deep-brown red), Tannin (poppy red), Date (light brown)
My recommendation: If you know that you like this formula, these Bite sets are always a good deal. You get a really nice selection of shades this year as well. However, I really do not like the Bite formula. I’m not sure what the problem is, by my lips get all dry and flaky when I use them, so I stay away. I might be allergic to an ingredient in them, since they are actually supposed to be very hydrating and they certainly feel creamy.
Price: $56 CAD ($160 CAD value) or $42 USD ($62 USD value)
What it is: A limited-edition cheek palette featuring cult-favorite Laguna Bronzing Powder, bestselling Orgasm Blush, and new Orgasm Highlighting Blush.
This palette contains:
– 0.12 oz/ 3.5 g Bronzing Powder in Laguna
– 0.12 oz/ 3.5 g Blush in Orgasm
– 0.12 oz/ 3.5 g Highlighting Blush in Orgasm
My recommendation: This was the one product that I was interested in, and I got it! The packaging is the single most stunning thing I have ever seen. I actually already own the blush in Orgasm, but it’s an old compact so it’s time to ditch it. Laguna and the highlighting Orgasm, however, are new to me! I think that this is a really beautiful palette, and I will be reviewing it soon for you!
We also got to look at some Charlotte Tilbury products, which is a new brand to Sephora. But to be honest, I did’t give them a second glance. I’m just not that curious about that brand for whatever reason.
Price: $61 CAD ($143 CAD value) or $49 USD ($110 USD value)
What it is: A seven-piece full face brush set with a beautiful, compact carrying case to store your brushes.
This set contains: Buffing foundation brush, angled concealer brush, pointed powder brush, fan brush, crease brush, angled liner brush, pouch.
Price: $31 CAD ($64 CAD value) or $25 USD ($36 USD value)
What it is: A set to address a variety of skin needs with six different ingredient-based flavors targeting specific skin concern.
This set contains: 6 x 0.78 oz/ 22 g Sephora Face Masks in Coconut, Pearl, Rose, Pinapple, Green Tea, Aloe Vera
Price: $48 CAD ($91 CAD value) or $40 USD ($76 USD value)
What it is: A limited-edition set of award-winning highlighter in four delicious, glow-filled macarons.
This set contains: 4 x 0.085 oz/ 2.4 g Shimmering Skin Perfector® Pressed Highlighter in Opal (neutral white gold with soft pink pearl), Vanilla Quartz (light gold infused with pink pearl), Rose Quartz (neutral pale pink with soft gold pearl), Prismatic Amethyst (pale lavender with gold, violet, and rose duo-chrome pearls)
My recommendation: I think that this is such a good deal! You get a variety of highlighter shades for practically the price of one! When will you ever go through a full highlighter?! Almost never! This is the perfect opportunity to expand your shade range. I also think that these mini highlighters would make great individual gifts! However, I didn’t personally pick these up. I already own three of these shades, and I’m not rich enough to give these away as presents lol.
Price: $72 CAD ($475 CAD value) or $58 USD ($357 USD value)
What it is: A dreamy holiday set, featuring an exclusive 24-pan eyeshadow palette and four face products.
This set contains:
– 24 x Eyeshadows
– 2 x Blush
– 0.17 oz/ 4.8 g Deluxe Better Than Sex Mascara
– 0.10 oz/ 2.9 mL Dreamy Lips Ultra Plush Lip Gloss in Shade Pink Swan
– 1 oz/ 30 mL Travel-Size Hangover Spray
– Fold-over Bag
My recommendation: First of all, I think the value estimate is insane, but maybe it’s true? Typically, these Too Faced eyeshadow palettes that come in the holiday sets are much poorer in quality than their regular releases. I’m not sure why this is, but I did personally encounter this when I purchased one of their holiday sets almost two years ago now. There’s no way I can say whether this set follows suit, but you might want to swatch it in store first.
Price: $120 CAD ($179 CAD value)
What it is: A set with everything you need for your nighttime skincare routine.
This set contains:
– 1 oz/ 30 mL TLC Framboos™ Glycolic Night Serum
– 1 oz/ 30 mL Beste™ No. 9 Jelly Cleanser
– 0.27 oz/ 8 mL B-Hydra ™ Intensive Hydration Serum
– 0.5 oz/ 15 mL Lala Retro™ Whipped Cream
– 0.17 oz/ 5 mL C-Tango™ Multivitamin Eye Cream
My recommendation: For whatever reason the set that is offered in Canada is different from the set in the US, so I’m just going to cover this one. I think that this is the better set anyways! The TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum is the only product from Drunk Elephant that I have really noticed a positive difference with in my skin. So much so that I think I might purchase the full size during the November VIB sale! The full size is $112 CAD anyways, so if you want to try some other Drunk Elephant products, you might as well get this set! Although I have to warn you that that C-Tango eye cream was terrible for me. It gave me all sorts of texture around my eyes!
Price: $45 CAD ($74 CAD value) or $36 USD ($57 USD value)
What it is: A set of six of Dr. Jart’s favorite masks to pamper yourself when things go wrong.
This set contains:
– Hydration Lover Rubber Mask
– Firm Lover Rubber Mask
– Dermask Micro Jet Clearing Solution™ Mask
– Dermask Micro Jet Brightening Solution™ Mask
– Prescriptment Water Replenishment Cotton Sheet Mask
– Pore Minimalist Black Charcoal Sheet Mask
My recommendation: Last year I bought a similar set, the Tarot of Masks and really enjoyed most of them. They all felt like they were made of very good quality material, however I really didn’t notice any positive results, other than some momentary hydration. But on the whole, I’m not really a believer in sheet masks. You can read my reviews of these masks here.
Price: $77 CAD ($454 CAD value) or $59 USD ($354 USD value)
What it is: A limited-edition gift set stuffed with tarte treats that are almost too sweet, including bestselling eyeshadow, liner, mascara, cheek, and lip formulas in all new shades.
This set contains:
– 0.035 oz/ 1 g Rainforest of the Sea™ Collection Lip Quench Rescue Balm in Pink
– 24 x 0.024 oz/ 0.7 g Eyeshadows
– 2 x 0.1 oz/ 3 g Amazonian Clay Blush
– 0.1 oz/ 3 g Amazonian Clay Highlighter
– 0.1 oz/ 3 g Amazonian Clay Bronzer
– 0.035 oz/ 1 mL Deluxe Sex Kitten Liquid Eyeliner
– 0.13 oz/ 4 mL Deluxe Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-In-1 Mascara
My recommendation: Here’s another seemingly outrageous value claim. Anyways, Tarte also has a reputation for releasing sub-par eyeshadow palettes during the holidays, so I would be cautious again. I also can’t say I get or am interested in the pineapple theme. It was just seems so bulky. I do quite like Tarte powder products though, and their Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara is quite nice!
Price: $47 CAD ($140 CAD value) or $39 USD ($108 USD value)
What it is: A set of mini, travel-friendly versions of Milk Makeup’s bestselling makeup and skincare sticks, plus a mini KUSH Mascara, all in a rainbow glitter clutch.
This set contains:
– Mini KUSH Mascara
– 0.21 oz Mini Cooling Water Under-Eye De-Puffer Stick
– 0.22 oz Mini Watermelon Brightening Serum
– 0.19 oz Mini Blur Stick Matte Primer
– 0.21 oz Mini Lip + Cheek in Werk
– 0.23 oz Mini Highlighter in Lit
– 0.25 oz Mini Holographic Highlighter Stick in Supernova
– Rainbow glitter clutch
Price: $52 CAD ($126 CAD value) or $39 USD ($109 USD value)
What it is: A Sephora-exclusive, limited-edition kit filled with Benefit bestsellers for brows, face, and lashes—ready-to-gift in an adorable makeup bag.
This Set Contains:
– 0.3 oz/ 8.5 g BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara
– 0.1 oz/ 3 g Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel in Shade 3
– 0.14 oz/ 3.96 g Hoola Matte Bronzer Mini
– 0.75 oz/ 21 g The POREfessional Face Primer
– Makeup bag
My recommendation: I really only have experience with the BADgal BANG! mascara, and it is unique but pretty good. You can check out my review here.
Price: $50 CAD ($70 CAD value) or $39 USD ($54.50 USD value)
What it is: A four-piece set featuring the best of Briogeo to help hydrate and revitalize strands for healthy-looking hair.
This set contains:
– 8 oz/ 236.5 mL Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask
– 1 oz/ 29.5 mL Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo
– 0.75 oz/ 22 mL Rosarco Blow Dry Perfection and Heat Protectant Creme
– 0.75 oz/ 22 mL Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-In Conditioning Spray
My recommendation: This could be a really good set to get if you have been thinking about trying out more luxury hair brands. I love the Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask, and you get a full size in this kit for only a few dollars more than that item costs by itself.
Ok, phew, that’s it. Those were the items that were available for preview at my store, but it may have varied by location. All of these items are available for purchase by Rouge members online right now as well, along with a few extra items from Beautyblender, Cover FX and Caudalie:
Overall, products that I purchased were the NARS Orgasm Infatuation Palette, the Becca Glow Gloss in “Rose Gold” (I had been using this gloss all summer but recently lost it 😭 so I had to repurchase because it is one of my favourites) and the Jack Black Moisture Therapy Lip Balm.
And lastly, because I made a purchase over $60, I got a free makeup bag with deluxe samples inside. I think this is the nicest bag we have gotten yet! And it’s huge!
The items in the bag were:

What it is: A long-lasting, creamy eyeshadow stick that can also line, highlight, and create smoky looks.
Total Value of the Swag Bag = $102.2 CAD + bag!
