Hey everyone, today I want to share with you my thoughts on this latest Sephora sale. I have some suggestions for products that I think you would love, I’ll tell you what I am thinking about getting, and I’m also going to discuss the loyalty program changes (if there really are any at all).
One thing to note about this sale that is different is that the online code is only a one-time use code. So you can only place one order with the discount. However, you can do unlimited sale purchases in-store. I personally think this is stupid, but whatever. With a multi-use code you will sell more product. I think I placed 4 orders during the last sale… Whatever! Must be careful this time!
What to get
This has been my favourite glowy bronzer this summer. It comes in two shades, “Sunrise Waves” which is more golden, and “Sunset Waves” which is more red. Each bronzer has multiple strips of different shades from their existing bronzer line, plus two strips of a highlighter. You can view my full review here.
I purchased this highlighter in the shade “Fort de France” during the Spring VIB sale. It is very gorgeous, and likely the most finely-milled and smooth powder highlighter I own. I find that it doesn’t accentuate texture, which is certainly a bonus. I’m definitely considering getting another shade!
Even without trying all of the cream highlighters in the world, I am willing to bet that these are the best out there! The formula is so creamy to use, and can be worn in a subtle or blinding way. I own three shades, so I think that is a testament as to how much I love these! View my full review here.
Overall, I think you would be well-off getting any ABH palette (with the exception of Subculture; which I haven’t tried), but I think the most well-curated palette is Soft Glam. Yes, it’s another neutral palette, but I truly believe it is THE neutral palette to have. Also, I’ve already hit pan on four shades, so that’s how much I use it! Check out my full review and some eye looks done with this palette here.
When this released, I know a ton of people groaned at the fact that more warm shadows were being forced on us. But the reality is, theses shades are overdone because they are easy to use on the daily. This has been one of my most used eyeshadow palettes this summer. From this palette, I really like the Natasha Denona formula. Check out my review and looks with this palette here.
These shadow pots have quickly become really popular in the beauty community, and for good reason! The metallic and light-reflecting ability of these shadows is insane! I own four shades: they’re all amazing. The only annoying thing is that I don’t like applying eyeliner on top of them, so keep that in mind. Check out my full review here.
These liquid shadows are so worth the hype, even though they are very expensive. I own the shades Jezebel, La Douce and and Cloud. Even though these are the “Shimmer” and Glows, I still find they have a tasteful amount of glitter to them. I also love that they dry down, for the exact reason that the Tarte Chrome Paint Shadow Pots annoy me, eyeliner is easy to apply on top of these! Now that the vivid shades are available, I might get that Amethyst shade…
I really don’t need to talk about these lipglosses; I’ve already mentioned them on my blog 1,500,234 times. In short, they are my favourite gloss formula. Pigmented, hydrating, comfortable. Favourite shade is Kristen. Full review and a ton of swatches can be found here.
This is my favourite sheer lip gloss formula. And even then, it’s not that sheer! They have a ton of juicy colour to them! I own 5 shades of these now, so clearly I love them! Rose Gold, Tigerlily and Snapdragon are by far my favourite shades. Check out my review and swatches here.
The UD Vice lipstick formula is my favourite lipstick formula out there. It comes in 6 finishes: the creams and comfort mattes are my favourite. I own around 28 shades of this lipstick. What does that tell you? My HG shade is Ravenswood, and I’ve finished a whole tube and repurchased it since discovering it a year or two ago. Full review with a ton of swatches is here.
What I’m getting (maybe)
This is a great mattifying primer that I use every day to fill the pores in my nose. I used to use Benefit’s POREfessional, but this primer works much better at controlling oil (although oil still comes through on my nose throughout the day). I am literally squeezing out the last pumps currently, so this needs to be replaced ASAP!
I use this concealer in the white shade for eye looks. I first purchased this in the spring, and I have already used the full tube, only with eye looks!! I use this to prime my eyes for colourful looks, and for cutting the crease, which I do almost every day. It does a really good job of maintaining the true shade of the shadow.
My friend Cleia from Always, Cleia just raved about this eye cream on her blog, so I need to try it! I’m always on the search for the perfect eye cream. Maybe this is it?
I’m super curious about this new concealer. It is supposed to be very hydrating and easy to blend. I love a good liquidy concealer, which apparently this one is. I have dry under eyes, so I’m tempted, that’s for sure! One thing though: the shade range is total garbage.
Ok, the last thing I need is another highlighter. BUTTTTTT apparently these are so beautiful!! The makeup struggle is real people.
I lied before. The last thing I need is another eyeshadow palette. When I saw that Dominque Cosmetics was coming to Sephora, I was SO excited. I have wanted this palette since it was released almost a year ago. I was searching for it when I was on my roadtrip through the central US this summer: couldn’t find it. Well, here it is. I have been getting way too many eyeshadow palettes lately, it’s actually starting to stress me out. This is the last one people!!!!
Lately I’ve been feeling kind of ambivalent about liquid eyeliners. I usually use either the Kat Von D Ink Liner or the Sephora Wink It Felt Liner. Whatever is the most accessible. They’re both around this price range, so I might just get this one next instead, to give it a try. Apparently it’s good!
I’m about out of my Fix +, so now that it’s at Sephora Canada, I might as well restock! I’ve also been wanting to try the Rose scent, and they were out of that one in-store last time I was looking.
Recently, since I’ve been working with more colour, I’ve been looking for good, quick brush cleaners or methods to switch the shade on my brush quickly. I use the same brushes for all of my looks and I don’t have duplicates, so quick colour switches are necessary. My friend told me that this was a good option!
I’ve also heard great things about this dry sponge colour switch technique. Honestly, I wish it were cheaper. $23 for this??? I usually just brush my brushes on a piece of paper towel to get off the majority of the pigment, and that works fine. So I’m not altogether sure why I’m trying to throw money at this non-problem. I guess I want to invest in a more official way of colour switching. We will see if I get either of these.
Loyalty Program Changes
If you don’t already know, Sephora has announced a few changes to their loyalty program. The points earned per dollar spent are now scaled with the loyalty levels. If you are a Beauty Insider, you still earn one point for every one dollar spent. However, if you are VIB you get 1.25 points per dollar, and Rouge get 1.5 points per dollar. I think this is a step in the right direction, since Rouge members spend more than triple what BI and VIB spend in a calendar year.
The other exciting perk changes also include Rouge members being able to redeem 2,500 points for a $100 GC. There will also be opportunities for VIBs and Rouges to redeem points for full-sized products. These seem like such exciting changes, don’t they? Well I wouldn’t get too excited. The fine print says LIMITED QUANTITIES. Sephora is once again FAKING progress. There is no doubt in my mind that only small small amounts of GCs and select full-sized products will be made available in the Rewards Bazaar on Tuesdays and Thursdays that will sell out in mere SECONDS. However, we can’t really know what the situation is going to be like until they put theses changes into place. I guess we can only hope for the best, but unfortunately I’m expecting the worst.
While overall, these changes represent small steps in progress to increasing the value of the loyalty program, they are laughable compared to the loyalty programs of other retailers and companies. What excited me so much in the beginning has led to utter disappointment, and I’m not surprised. This is typical Sephora. Anyways, enjoy the sale! lol. I’m a realistic pessimist, what can I say? Let’s just focus on the makeup I guess. After all, we are getting what we are paying for. There are just better loyalty programs out there. I don’t know why Sephora bothers having one at all, to be honest.
What are you going to get in this surprise sale? What is your HG product that you recommend?
