Hello everyone! Welcome to my series, The Beauty Sale Scale, where I critique and give my opinion on beauty items that go on sale! Are they worth your money? Have I tried those products? Are they actually being offered at a good price?
I will be rating beauty products that are on sale on a 5-point lipstick scale (as seen below), with regards to how good the price is, whether I know the product is good or not, and reviews of the product from people who have tried it. If I think a product is an amazingly good deal and I would suggest it to you, the product would receive 5/5 lipsticks. If it’s a waste of your time, 1 lipstick out of 5 will be the verdict.
Items that are included in the sale often differ between Canada and the US, so I have made sure to use headers to indicate which items are Canada only and which are US only, starting with the items that are available in both countries.
Sephora Weekly Wow July 19, 2018
Tarte Tarteist™ PRO Glow Highlight & Contour Palette
Price
Original: $59 CAD, $45 USD
Sale: $29.50 CAD, $22.50 USD
Percentage off: 50%
Rating on Sephora = 4.5/5
Quick Take
This is a highlight and contour palette that includes both cream and powder shades. While I haven’t tried this palette myself, I know personally that Tarte powders are typically very blendable and smooth, with great pigmentation. Many reviews on Sephora report that this kit is an every day essential. However, be aware that the shades will likely not work on skin tones beyond light to medium.

Canada Only
Laneige Two Tone Lipstick
Price
Original: $35 CAD
Sale: $18 CAD
Percentage off: 49%
Rating on Sephora = 3.9/5
Quick Take
This is one of those lipsticks that includes two different shades in the bullet to “make it easier” to do ombre lips. It comes in a variety of shades than range from neutral to vibrant, but most of them fall in the pink range. Many reviewers rave about how comfortable and hydrating this lipstick is, however, most people note that the pigmentation isn’t amazing. Overall, with the price reduction and the mostly good reviews, this could be a good buy if you love a hydrating lip.

USA Only
Natasha Denona Tropic Eyeshadow Palette
Price
Original: $129 USD
Sale: $75 USD
Percentage off: 42%
Rating on Sephora = 3.8/5

If you are looking for a colourful but wearable summer palette, this one is a stunner! Man was I shocked to see this on the Weekly Wow (although I am pissed that it wasn’t offered in Canada. What’s with that?!)! HOWEVER, there have been rampant rumors about this formula just not living up to the ND name. Many reviews on Sephora report that the shadows just didn’t perform well. Both blending and pigmentation were a problem, resulting in a difficult-to-use formula. While it is exciting that this palette is on the Weekly Wow, I think we may know why…
SUPERNOVABEAUTY Rating = 2/5 Try at your own risk!
Lancome Prismatic Plump Lip Gloss
Price
Original: $22 USD
Sale: $22 USD???
Percentage off: 0%????
Rating on Sephora = 4.4/5
Quick Take
I’m going to start by saying that I don’t get it… These are on the Weekly Wow, and yet they aren’t actually on sale? They are $22 on the Lancome website, as they are on Sephora. There is no sale price….? Therefore, I’m not even going to cover this product, because it’s pointless.
SUPERNOVABEAUTY Rating = 0/5 What a joke
Sephora Collection False Eye Lashes
Price
Original: $10 USD
Sale: $5 USD
Percentage off: 50%
Rating on Sephora = 3.9/5
Quick Take
There are 5 styles of these lashes that are on sale, with most of them being sale priced at $5 (the single lashes are $7). The strange part is that there is no description as to whether these are synthetic or natural fibers, but the page does say that they aren’t tested on animals. Overall there are some good reviews, but it’s really going to depend on the lash style and I really didn’t see any reviews for the styles that are on sale.. But at least these are affordable, so even if they don’t turn out to be great, it won’t be a huge loss.
SUPERNOVABEAUTY Rating = 4/5 This could be a good buy

Whoa! That two tone lipstick is interesting!

It is! There have been quite a few companies that have come out with a product like this, but they usually don’t get good reviews. So this one is intriguing since people seem to like it.

I’m also offended that the ND palette isn’t on sale in Canada. Why the hell not!? Not that I was planning on buying it anyways, but I would like the option to do so lol

I know we get shitted on so much by living in Canada. It’s really disappointing

OMG This series is such a brillant idea, can’t believe ND is on sale, but I haven’t heard great things about that palette, when I see products on sale I always ask myself “yeah, cool, but why is it on sale?” xx

Yes exactly! And sometimes good products are on sale. I was so happy last winter when I picked up the Urban Decay Heavy Metals palette on sale. But with all of the negative talk that has been going on about this ND palette, there certainly is no mystery as to why it’s on sale. Thanks so much for reading ☺️

After being so excited about last week’s sale with the Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes palette, this week’s sale felt like a flop…but only because I already own the one product I would be interested in purchasing. I thought there would be more products! I purchased that Tarte Pro Glow palette during a Weekly Wow sale last year and really love it!

This week WAS such a disappointment!! Like holy crap. They really need to work on being more consistent. And why do customers in the US always get access to way better items on sale? It’s insulting to be frank. Don’t they want our money? It’s good to hear that you love that palette! I almost considered it, but I don’t need it (thank god because there are all sorts of things that I will be purchasing soon).

It’s true! The US always gets better stuff. I’ve found that our Weekly Wow sales tend to be similar to the US’s though, sometimes just in different weeks – if there was anything that the US got that we didn’t, hopefully those will go on sale in upcoming weeks.

Yes we can only hope! You’re right, sometimes similar products come up later! Maybe we get the leftovers 🙄
