Wow! or Waste? Smashbox X Vlada Petal Metal Collection

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 4.39.47 PM

Hello everyone! Welcome back to another Wow! or Waste? Whether a whole collection has been launched, or just a new product, I’m going to evaluate whether each product is either a Wow! buy or a Waste? of money, in terms of the price and the amount of product you get.

The purpose of this series is to help you with your decision making process. With so many different products out there, I want to make sure that you are aware of which products are the better deal. So many products from different companies can perform really similarly, but can have a way different value when you break down the amount of money you are paying for that product. While knowing this won’t determine whether a product is ultimately good or not, it may help you either be more likely to purchase a product, because it is a great deal, or stay away from a product, because they are charging way too much for the amount that you get! This is just one step in the decision making process when you are looking to purchase something.

Today we are evaluating the Smashbox X Vlada Petal Metal Collection. And what a beauty it is! I think the release of this collection was very much unexpected, and is bound to be a hit since it all centers around rose gold! Rose gold had been hot for a while now, and I really do think it will continue to be for quite some time. I freaking LOVE rose gold, so I am all over this. I think people are going to go crazy over this collection!

This collection launches today (April 13th) on, and will be available in Sephora April 17th, Ulta stores on April 22nd, and all other stores April 23rd.

“Get dipped in rose gold with the limited-edition Petal Metal Collection! It was co-created with makeup artist and Instagram star Vlada Haggerty (@vladamua), who’s also Smashbox’s lip editor-in-chief. She loves creative collaboration and used her signature rose gold color as the inspiration for these statement-makers for face, eyes, lips and body.

Each product can be worn alone or layered for a complete rose-gold look. The beauty of these shades is they don’t compete or create a dull, monochromatic effect. Instead, they complement every skin tone and together build beautiful layers of pink that add warmth, radiance and a bouquet of boldness to your look.” — Vlada Haggerty

Alright, I am going to warn you that this post is FREAKING LONG! You might want to just scroll to the items that you are actually interested in, because this collection is huge and has therefore caused me to write a very long post. I hope you enjoy all of my hard work putting this together, haha.

If you are curious about whether the items in this collection are a Wow! or Waste? then please keep reading.

Petal Metal Shimmer Spray

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 5.49.34 PM

Product Information

“This lightweight illuminating body and face mist sprays on a lasting dewy, rose-gold glow.

Vlada’s tip: Use before highlighting cheeks, collarbones or along the shins to max out your glow!

• Instantly preps skin for makeup application and adds lasting hydration
• Mists on light-reflecting pearls that add all-day, rose-gold radiance
• Lightweight formula easily blends and builds to a customizable luminous finish
• For all skin types”

Price and Quantity

This shimmer spray is priced at $50 CAD ($39 USD) and has 3.9 oz of product. It’s hard to know what to categorize this product as, since it is a spray. Do I count it as a liquid highlighter? An illuminating setting spray? A primer?

Regardless, this is a pretty unique item, so a price comparison may not even be necessary. But just for kicks, here are some comparisons to both shimmer sprays and liquid highlighters. The only other shimmer sprays I could think of were the Too Faced Festival Refresh, which is supposed to have a pearlescent shimmer, and the Cover FX Illuminating Spray, which has more of a subtle shimmer, but it is certainly there. Clearly though, these will be different from the rose gold Petal Metal one.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Product Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ Shimmer (Spray) $26 3.4 $8/oz
2 Too Faced Festival Refresh Spray $32 3.4 $9/oz
3 Cover FX Illuminating Setting Spray $39 4 $10/oz
4 Smashbox Petal Metal Shimmer Spray $50 3.9 $13/oz
5 Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighter $50 1.7 $29/oz
6 Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Glow Highlighter $33 0.68 $49/oz
7 Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Soft Light Liquid Highlighter $36 0.4 $90/oz
8 Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops (Liquid Highlighter) $52 0.5 $104/oz

Wow! or Waste? Regardless of whichever way you choose to categorize and compare this spray, it is not really a Wow! When compared to the other sprays that I could think of, it is ranked last. However, when compared to liquid highlighters, it is first, so it is hard to tell what the value of this product actually is, cause what the heck is it? It might be a stretch to compare this product to real liquid highlighters, since it might perform VERY differently. It’s hard to know in advance. It is really going to have to be up to your best guess whether this product is worth the splurge or not!

As a shimmering spray though, this is not the best value one out there, although the shade is unique!

Photo Finish Petal Metal Primer

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 4.28.02 PM

Product Information

“Get petal-smooth skin! We partnered with Vlada to create a rose-gold shade that complements any skin tone. This highlighting face primer illuminates, perfects and enhances radiance while hydrating for better makeup application.

Vlada’s tip: Try Petal Metal Radiance Primer under sheer-coverage foundation, like Smashbox’s Camera Ready BB Cream, to let the rose-gold glow peek through!

• Loaded with hyaluronic acid and shea butter for instant hydration and all-day moisture
• 4K, high-definition spheres blur the look of pores, fine lines and imperfections
• Micro-fine rose gold pearls create a warm lit-from-within glow and magic-hour radiance
• Evens the look of your skin tone and preps the complexion for makeup application
• Doubles as a targeted highlighter over makeup
• Vegan”

Price and Quantity

This primer is priced at $50 CAD ($39 USD) and has 1 oz of product. Again, we are facing the conundrum of is this a primer, or a highlighter? I think that this product more readily compares to liquid highlighters that the last product though.

Just like in the last comparison, I’m going to include both illuminating primers and liquid highlighters. It’s hard to know what this primer actually looks like without swatching. How intense is it?

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Product Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer $45 1.7 $26/oz
2 Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighter $50 1.7 $29/oz
3 Make Up For Ever Radiance Primer $45 1 $45/oz
4 Cover FX Illuminating Primer $46 1 $46/oz
5 Dr. Brandt Sincare pores no more Luminizer Primer $48 1 $48/oz
5 Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Glow Highlighter $33 0.68 $48/oz
6 Smashbox Photo Finish Petal Metal Primer $50 1 $50/oz
7 Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter $55 0.8 $69/oz
8 Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Soft Light Liquid Highlighter $36 0.4 $90/oz
9 Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops $52 0.5 $104/oz

Wow! or Waste? When comparing this primer to other primers, it is ranked last. It’s hard to tell how shimmery this primer is, and it may very well be unique amongst these other ones, so value may not matter if you are truly interested in it.

On the other hand, this primer falls in the middle when compared to liquid highlighters. So overall, this product isn’t really a Wow! and is more of a Waste? If you are truly interested in this primer, and are looking for that rose gold radiance, I would say go for it because it does seem to be very unique. But there are some more affordable options out there, even though they will probably give you a different look. But for the highlighter aspect, there are plenty of rose gold liquid highlighters out there.

So buy this for the illuminating primer function, if anything.

Petal Metal Shimmer Drops

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 4.29.32 PM

Product Information

“This liquid shimmer potion acts as a weightless sparkle topper for lips and eye shadows or as a shimmering liquid highlighter for face. Vlada calls it “drops of heaven!” It instantly adds light-capturing luminosity and glitz to any look. Try it over your favorite Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick or anywhere you want a pop of radiance.

Rose Glitz: Rose gold shimmer.
Gold Glitz: Champagne shimmer.

Vlada’s tip: Dab on cheekbones for a mega glow.

• Translucent topper delivers subtle, radiant sparkle to lips, face and eyes
• Easily layers to build your ideal glow
• Water-thin and non-gritty formula sets quickly, stays in place and remains comfortably weightless on skin
• Unique dropper applicator dispenses the perfect amount of product
• Vegan”

Price and Quantity

These shimmer drops are priced at $40 CAD ($32 USD) and have 0.34 oz of product. Ok, now we are back in familiar territory. These are clearly liquid highlighters, so we will continue on with that kind of comparison. However, these do look more glittery than shimmery, so I will include some more glittery options as well.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Product Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighter $50 1.7 $29/oz
2 Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Glow Highlighter $33 0.68 $49/oz
3 Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Soft Light Liquid Highlighter $36 0.4 $90/oz
4 Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops $52 0.5 $104/oz
5 Cover FX Glitter Drops $54 0.5 $108/oz
6 Smashbox Petal Metal Shimmer Drops $40 0.34 $118/oz
7 Stila Glitter & Glow Highlighter $39 0.2 $195/oz

Wow! or Waste? These liquid highlighters are very clearly a Waste? Whether you are looking for a regular liquid highlighter or that extra glittery finish, there are other more affordable options out there for you. Liquid highlighters will certainly come in these shades, however, the more glittery Cover FX Glitter Drops do not come in that rose gold shade, so that one in particular is unique.

Overall, these actually don’t look that great. They look like just a sparse glitter in a clear medium, so I do think that there are better options out there. But if you want that sparse glitter effect so that you can easily top finished eye looks, for example, then these could be good for that purpose if you aren’t happy with the Cover FX Glitter Drop shades.

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 5.51.12 PM.png

Product Information

“A collection of gel-powder highlighters that wrap skin in ultra-flattering, rose-gold radiance. Each features a clear base formula that allows for the purest possible reflection of light with a super-smooth feel that won’t emphasize uneven skin texture. They’re available in 2 brilliant finishes that can be used on face and eyes.

Rosemantic: Highly reflective rose-gold pearls give your skin a warm, radiant sophisticated glow.
Gilded Rose: Highly reflective champagne-gold pearls melt into your skin to create a smooth, petal-soft radiance.

Vlada’s tip: “Try each wet for the ultimate glow!”

• Leaves skin looking radiant & smooth for 10 hours
• Can be used on both face & eyes
• Velvety & blendable formula easily builds to amp up luminosity
• Non-acnegenic; dermatologist- & ophthalmologist-tested
• Suitable for all skin types & textures
• Can also be applied wet for added intensity”

Price and Quantity

These highlighters are priced at $50 CAD ($39 USD) and have 0.35 oz of product. These highlighters are clearly the stunners of the collection! I think these are the items that people are the most excited for, and I am one of them! Although it is hard to tell if the rose one would work for my skin tone, and that’s the interesting shade! For comparisons, since this is a gel-powder formula, I’m going to include powder highlighters, along with those more bouncy textured type of highlighters. However, I have only chosen highlighters that are available in similar shades, rose gold and champagne, for the most part.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Product Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 NARS Highlighting Powder $50 0.49 $102/oz
2 Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter $38 0.32 $119/oz
3 Stila Heaven’s Hue Highlighter $42 0.35 $120/oz
4 Smashbox Petal Metal Highlighter $50 0.35 $143/oz
5 Fenty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter $42 0.28 $150/oz
6 Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed $46 0.28 $164/oz
7 Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Highlighter $38 0.2 $190/oz

Wow! or Waste? Well, these highlighters seem to be very middle of the line, although I am inclined to say that they are a Waste? Ranking fourth place is not great, and there are certainly some great other options that have a better value. I love both the Stila Heaven’s Hue, and the Too Faced Love Light highlighters. HOWEVER, these Petal Metal highlighters are very special, and clearly very unique, if only in packaging.

I very likely may be getting the Rosemantic one, although the description that claims that they have a clear base formula concerns me. Does that mean the only pigment is shimmer/glitter? Is this just going to be glitter on your face? It’s striking me that this collection has a F ton of highlighters. Every single item we have covered so far can be used as a highlighter lol. Talk about oversaturating your own market. Whatever, it’s all beautiful!

Petal Metal Liquid Eyeliner

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 4.31.28 PM

Product Information

“This easy-to-apply, longwearing liquid eyeliner glides on a satin-shimmer finish to define your eyes with ultimate precision.

24K Rose: Metallic rose gold pearl.
Black Rose: Black with rose gold pearl.

Vlada’s tip: Create a sophisticated eye look using both Petal Metal Liquid Liner shades. Thickly apply 24K Rose and thinly outline in Black Rose.

• Felt-tip precision applicator lets you line with control
• Sets to a satin-shimmer finish in 60 seconds
• Perfect for easily creating cat-eye or winged-out looks
• Long-wearing; water-resistant & non-smudging
• Ophthalmologist-tested and safe for contact lens wearers”

Price and Quantity

These liquid eyeliners are priced at $30 CAD ($24 USD) and have 0.058 oz of product. For comparisons I tried to use eyeliners that are glittery or metallic.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Product Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner $20 0.25 $80/oz
2 Too Faced Glitter Pop! Peel-Off Eyeliner $24 0.23 $104/oz
3 Sephora Collection Colorful Waterproof Eyeliner 24 HR Wear $16 0.085 $188/oz
4 Urban Decay Razor Sharp Water-Resistant Longwear Liquid Eyeliner $27 0.07 $386/oz
5 Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner Liquid Eyeliner $28 0.058 $483/oz
6 Smashbox Petal Metal Liquid Eyeliner $30 0.058 $517/oz
7 Lancôme Artliner 24H Bold Color Precision Eyeliner $38 0.04 $950/oz
7 shu uemura Metal:Ink Liquid Eye Liner $38 0.04 $950/oz

Wow! or Waste? When looking at the comparisons only, this product is a total Waste? However, AGAIN, these eyeliners are a totally unique product. I haven’t seen a rose gold eyeliner ANYWHERE, let alone a black one with rose gold shimmer. If you are just looking for a glitter or metallic liner in general, there are plenty of better value ones. But if you want a rose gold one, this might be it! And it is potentially worth the price for that shade! It does seem pretty cool! It’s also not like you’ll be using a rose gold eyeliner every day, so it should still last you even if it has a smaller amount of product.

Cover Shot Petal Metal Eye Shadow Palette

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 4.32.10 PM

Product Information

“This purse-sized, pigment-powered eye shadow palette features a wearable rainbow of rose gold. Each petal-soft pigment glides on in one swipe and beautifully blooms on lids to create effortless matte day looks and sultry metallic evening looks!

Vlada’s tip: Try using lighter shades to highlight brows or inner corners!

• Includes 6 eye shadows + 2 double-sized base shades in 1 purse-sized makeup palette
• Range of cashmere-like metallics and silky matte shades with intense pigment payoff and superior blendability
• Inspired by Vlada’s signature shade and makeup trends seen & shot at Smashbox’s L.A. creative photo studio”

Price and Quantity

This palette is priced at $35 CAD ($29 USD) and has 0.21 oz of product. Something that is a bit weird is that the amount of product listed on Smashbox’s website, and the amount listed on Sephora and the actual covershot palettes is different! On Smashbox, the amount of product listed is 0.21 oz, while the amount listed on Sephora and the back of the actual palettes is 0.27 oz. I am thinking that 0.27 oz includes the weight of the packaging, but maybe they have downsized these palettes recently? I have no idea.

To compare, I have simply chosen other mini palettes. There aren’t really any palettes out there that center around rose gold, so as I keep saying, this palette is also pretty unique.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Company’s Product Mentioned Above Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Number of Shades Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Huda Beauty Obsessions $35 0.45 9 $78/oz
2 Kat Von D MetalMatte Mini Eyeshadow Palette $53 0.6 10 $88/oz
3 Tarte Tartelette Toasted $60 0.64 12 $94/oz
4 UD Naked Heat $66 0.6 12 $110/oz
5 Smashbox Cover Shot: Eye Palettes $35 0.21 8 $167/oz
5 Tarte Tartelette Flirt $30 0.18 6 $167/oz

Wow! or Waste? These Smashbox Cover Shot palettes are pretty terrible when it comes to value, and are definitely a Waste?. However, if you are looking for rose gold up the yin yang in eyeshadows, here you go!

At first I literally had no interest in this palette, because I just don’t use the two cover shot palettes that I own. One absolutely needs to be decluttered, the Soft Light one that I did a Palette Roulette on. The other that I own, Golden Hour, I just don’t use, although I should give it another chance. Anyways, I had no interest in this Petal Metal Palette UNTIL I saw the swatches! They look really nice and almost have me considering getting this palette. BUT I already have an amazing rose gold shade in the Colourpop X KL Dream St. Palette. So I don’t know. I might need to swatch this one in order to decide further. Also, it’s a Waste?!! Why am I even considering it!? Oh, the power of rose gold…😩

Be Legendary Petal Metal Liquid Lip

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 4.34.04 PM

Product Information

“Be a Petal Metal mouth! We teamed up with Vlada Haggerty to create these luxe, liquid-metal lipsticks. The gloss-like metallic liquid lip delivers rich, saturated color with a non-gritty, chrome finish in universally flattering shades of rose gold.

Petal Metal: Metallic rose gold.
Rose Magic: Metallic rust rose gold.
XO, Vlada: Metallic bronze warm gold.

Vlada’s tip: Use in the center of your lips to add volume!

• Lightweight, comfortable liquid gel formula
• Reflective chrome finish creates the appearance of fuller lips
• Foolproof cone-shaped applicator distributes an even layer of product”

Price and Quantity

These liquid lipsticks are priced at $28 CAD ($24 USD) and have 0.27 oz of product.

For a comparison I have chosen basically metallic lip glosses, since these liquid lipsticks don’t dry down, and really act as a gloss. Even though the metallic trend is still hanging around, there aren’t actually a ton of metallic glosses that are as pigmented as this Smashbox formula, let alone rose gold in shade. But, nonetheless, I have included metallic glosses, whether they give you the same impact or not.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Product Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss $23 0.23 $100/oz
2 Smashbox Be Legendary Petal Metal Liquid Lip $28 0.27 $104/oz
3 Tarte Lip Bling Highlighter Lip Paint $24 0.2 $120/oz
4 Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipgloss $21 0.16 $131/oz
5 Huda Beauty Lip Strobe $23 0.14 $164/oz
6 Bite Beauty Prismatic Pearl Crème Lip Gloss $25 0.14 $179/oz
7 Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss $35 0.17 $206/oz
8 Kevin Aucoin Molten Liquid Lipstick $39 0.14 $279/oz
9 Pretty Vulgar My Lips Are Sealed Liquid Lipstick $29 0.1 $290/oz
10 Touch In Sol Metallist Liquid Foil Lipstick Duo $28 0.084 $333/oz

Wow! or Waste? Well lookie here, we finally have an absolute Wow! Ranking very close to first place, these metallic lip products actually have great value!

I have two of these Be Legendary Liquid Lips (shades Petal Metal and Mauve Squad), but I really haven’t worn them enough to form a good opinion on them. They are a bit sticky, but definitely have a smooth cushion-y feel. The only thing that I should warn you about is that they can be a bit gloopy if you apply too much product. Also, as you may have already gathered, Petal Metal, one of the shades in this collection, is not new! I already own it, and have for at least a year now!

PS. I’ve just applied Petal Metal actually and am wearing it while I am writing this up, and to be honest, it’s pretty comfy!

Always On Petal Metal Matte Liquid Lipstick

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 4.35.32 PM
Product Information

“We gave our cult-favorite the Vlada touch! This 8-hour metallic matte lipstick includes custom-blended rose-gold shades that are specifically formulated to feel light, stay put & not dry out your lips. Wear them alone or layer with other liquid lipsticks for a luminous look.

Desert Rose: Copper with copper pearl.
In Bloom: Mauve with mauve-silver pearl.
XO, Vlada: Metallic rose gold.

Vlada’s tip: Dab in center of lips for a metallic ombré.

• Delivers rich, lightweight color with a metallic matte finish
• Advanced Polymer Technology ensures color stays put for 8 hours
• Won’t flake, bleed or feather
• Primer oil complex makes lips comfortable and non-drying
• Applicator holds enough product to precisely line and fill in one swipe”

Price and Quantity

These liquid lipsticks are priced at $28 CAD ($24 USD) and have 0.13 oz of product. Now, these liquid lipsticks are actually the classic dry-down type.

For comparisons I have tried to find dry-down metallic liquid lipsticks, but there actually aren’t a ton out there!

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Product Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick

2 Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick $24 0.17 $141/oz
3 Kat Von D Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick $30 0.18 $167/oz
4 Smashbox Always On Petal Metal Matte Liquid Lipstick $28 0.13 $215/oz
5 Ciate London Glitter Flip $23 0.1 $230/oz
6 Milk Makeup Lip Metal $29 0.11 $264/oz
7 Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick $29 0.1 $290/oz

Wow! or Waste? Again, we are kind of ranking in the middle at number four, so this liquid lipstick is more of a Waste?, if anything. Although, those that rank above it may not give as good of a metallic effect, so you will want to do some swatching and researching if you are interested in getting that better deal.

I have actually tried and reviewed this liquid lipstick in the shade XO, Vlada (which is again, not a new shade), and I found it incredibly drying, uncomfortable, and it looked terrible after 10 minutes. It cracked in my lip lines, leaving me with an unfortunate stripey look, so I can’t recommend these, personally. A mini of the shade XO, Vlada actually comes in the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some New Lip Kit, that I reviewed earlier this year.

Product Information

“Get a glitter cat-eye in seconds! These stick-on eye liner strips bring the bling and add instant sparkle to your look. Try pairing them with makeup from our Petal Metal collection for a shimmering rose-gold effect. There’s no fuss and no mess—just perfect lines to help you shine.

• Includes Swarovski crystals to line your eyes
• Easy-to-remove self-adhesive strips
• Cruelty-free”

Price and Quantity

These stick-on eye liner strips are priced at $62 CAD ($50 USD). Yikes! I included these in here more as an FYI that they are part of the collection. I will not be comparing them to any other products because I am pretty sure there are none…. lol.

Overall Collection Value

For a lot of these products it was hard to place them in a category for price comparisons, so what you will use that product for will determine which products you compare it with. So many of these items seem to be very unique, so in those cases price comparisons will not play into the picture. You will have to decide whether you want to try those unique products out on your own or not! You may just want to give it a go, and if it doesn’t work out, you know that you can always return it (at least if you purchase through Sephora).

So many of these products are so unique, and are really filling a gap in the beauty market. While rose gold is super popular, we certainly don’t a have a rose gold shimmer spray, a rose gold primer, rose gold liquid eyeliners, a rose gold focused eyeshadow palette, or many rose gold lip products (that I know of!). We certainly don’t have rose gold eyeliner stickers, but I think it could be argued that the beauty community really doesn’t need those… haha. So, overall, this collection really has come out with some innovative products where price comparisons may not be appropriate when deciding whether to purchase or not. I have done my best here to lay it all out for you, but ultimately I would recommend that you wait for reviews before purchasing, especially for the weirder/more unusual products (rose gold primer and spray).

But if you are really taken with some of these items, then go for it! This collection is the ultimate treat yo-self moment!

    1. I know. It’s so beautiful and unique!! I will be too, even if the value isn’t great for most of the products. With packaging and shades like this, I’m ok with spending a little extra money!

      Liked by 1 person

  1. That powder highlighter is guaranteed to be sold out within minutes, haha.

I love rose gold things too, and this collection is SO pretty, but…I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I can’t find a use for metallic lips in my every day life which pretty much eliminates all of lip products in this collection, or maybe I feel like these are all variations of products we’ve already seen, just in rose gold? One could argue that the UD Naked 3 palette is rose gold-esque even though it has more shades than the Smashbox. I am interested in the primer and the rose gold liner, though…

MAC also just realized shimmer versions of their Fix+! A lot more companies are coming out with shimmery setting sprays now, which would have been a no-no a year or two ago haha. I find it kind of interesting that in the promos, they didn’t use the Shimmer Drops on the cheekbones as highlighter, but rather on the eyelid and lips.

    1. Haha I totally agree! I can’t wait until it comes to Sephora 🙂

You are totally right, about the metallic lips. Like I said, I own two of those metallic lipsticks and I NEVER wear them! Where do I wear a metallic lip? I am going to try to make an effort to wear them more, since I have spent money on them, but I’m not sure that I would buy more.

And you are totally right that the Naked 3 could be considered an all rose-gold palette, cause those are literally the tones, rose, and gold, although are there many ACTUAL rose gold shades? I can’t remember, and I own that darn palette lol. Regardless, this smashbox rose gold palette might be TOO much of the same tone to actually make it worth it. Will they really look different on the eye? It’s hard to tell.

I totally forgot about those new MAC sprays! For whatever reason, they have just not been on my radar, maybe because I don’t care about them lol. But they definitely seem like they could be very similar! I think I might add that one into the price comparisons above, thank you!!

I suspect those shimmer drops probably look terrible as a highlighter, which is why they didn’t use them that way, since they are a sparse glitter in a clear medium. They could be a good highlighter topper though, right at the top of the cheekbones!

      1. Is it not out already?! I was in Sephora during lunch time to grab stuff for the sale (lol) and I SWEAR I walked by a display of it!

I looove the look of metallic lips but like you said, to which event do you wear it where you don’t look crazy?!

Hmm, that’s true, I don’t own Naked 3 so I have no idea, but probably only 1-2 of the shades could actually be considered rose gold. But will it be the same issue for the Smashbox palette? There’s only so many variations of a rose gold shadow you can make, haha! Hard to know until you actually see it in person, I guess, which I think goes for a lot of the products in this release!

I forgot to say, awesome roundup of this collection!

  2. WHAAAT. It’s not supposed to be available at Sephora until the 17TH!!!!!!!! Might need to phone Sephora lol. Although, it’s not on the website! And thank you! It turned out to be a freaking huge post but I didn’t really want to split it into two!

  3. That highlight is gonna be sooooo gorgeous! I need need need! I’m also slightly intrigued by the lipsticks? Idk, I think they look pretty, but I might not get much use out of them!

    1. I definitely can’t wait to swatch everything! Yeah with the lips I definitely don’t get nearly enough use out of them, but that’s because I’m at school every day!

  4. I don’t know why but when I first saw the brand collection photo I was excited, but when I looked at each product individually I just felt…meh. The highlighter intrigues me but I think I would enjoy the Amrezy more and it’s much cheaper.
And there’s no way in hell I would pay $50 for a shimmer spray! Unless it’s actually meant to be a highlighter, but as a spray I already have a Bath & body glitter spray that I never use so….

    1. Haha I totally agree for the most part. I wouldn’t even consider purchasing most of these items, but I can recognize how gorgeous and potentially good each product may be! The only items that I would even consider getting are the powder highlighter and the eyeshadow palette. But I never use my cover shot palettes so I would need to think over purchasing the palette. All the other items just don’t seem that useful for my particular makeup routine, but I can still appreciate them!

I also have a B&BW glitter spray that is my favourite DISCONTINUED scent, but I never use it because I am afraid of the glitter. But sometimes I indulge and use it under clothing where you can’t see the glitter cause I love and miss the scent! Haha 🙂

      1. The eyeshadow palette does look pretty, I just remember reading your palette roulette when you did one of the cover shot palettes and it didn’t perform as well as it could have so I think I’d stay away from that one.

I HATE when B&BW discontinues things! Cucumber melon was my favourite but they got rid of it and only occasionally sell it when they have their semi annual sales. Grrrr. Lol yes the shimmer is quite noticeable, and the mist is more like a spray so it’s hard to control. But if the scent is great why not? What scent is it btw?

      2. Yeah it’s hard to know if the formula will be the same or not! Also how different are the shades really going to be? It will definitely require some swatching.

It was Amber Blush!! I love amber scents and that one was amazing. So sad that they got rid of it 😢

  5. From one Rose gold lover to another, you said you hadn’t seen Rose gold eyeliner so I had to share this, especially since it’s on sale 😘 also I’m not sure why you didn’t get on the PR list from Smashbox for a big part like this!!!

    1. Thank you! Yes, I actually saw that liner after the fact! I totally forgot that it came out with their Make Believe in Yourself collection, although I had thought that maybe it wasn’t available anymore! I wonder if it is any good? Thanks for stopping by 🙂

      1. I’ve tried it but I’m not very good with liquid liner so maybe it’s just me. But I LOVE the color. And the glitter is to die for.
