Wow! or Waste? Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Cushion Lipgloss

HiFiExclusive_IntlCarousel_EN.jpg

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another Wow! or Waste? Whether a whole collection has been launched, or just a new product, I’m going to evaluate whether each product is either a Wow! buy or a Waste? of money, in terms of the price and the amount of product you get.

Today we are evaluating another launch in a sea of new releases. There have been SO many lately and there is no sign of things slowing down. Too Faced’s new Natural Nude collection also launches today. As usual, I only cover the items that I am interested in in my Wow! or Waste? series, which is why I may neglect some launches over others. Also, it is just impossible to cover all of the new releases, there are so many!!!

The Natural Nude stuff looks pretty, but I mean, is Too Faced out of ideas or what?? Late to the band wagon on unicorn and mermaids (also why is Tarte now doing mermaid stuff too. Just let it go already.), and now a whole collection inspired by one of their nude palettes. Do we really need more nudes..? Anyways, I’m sure some people will love it, but it doesn’t necessarily attract me, therefore I don’t care whether those products are a Wow! or Waste?

Anyways, let’s get into today’s focus! This time around we are evaluating the new Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Cushion Lipgloss, which launches today, March 15th! In fact, I’ve already placed my order to try one of these out, so maybe that hints to you which way this goes… This lipgloss comes in 20 shades and there are 4 different “effects”: creme, sheer creme, metallic and holographic. As much as I love Urban Decay, I’m sure that that holographic claim is a lie. Holographic makeup just doesn’t seem to exist, and their “holographic” Disco Queen Collection was so NOT holo.

Something else that has also released from Urban Decay is their new Double Team Special Effect Colored Mascara (5 colourful shades). However, I won’t be including that in today’s Wow! or Waste? since the amount of product included in mascaras doesn’t usually matter since you are only supposed to use them for a certain amount of time, regardless of whether there is product left or not.

If you don’t know me, I am a total lipgloss girl. I love lipsticks, but I have dry lips, so lipglosses are often a go to for me. To date, I have loved almost all of Urban Decay’s lip products, although their past lipglosses have certainly been lacking (and maybe a bit sticky). So hopefully these are awesome! My HG lipgloss is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Glosses, so I can’t wait to see how these compare.

If you are curious about whether these lipglosses are Wow! or Waste? then please keep reading.

Product Information

“Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss is ultra-shiny, glides on cushiony-soft and provides long-lasting wear that’s comfortable, not tacky.

Laced with vitamin E and peppermint oil, our hydrating formula leaves lips feeling nourished, has an immediate plumping effect and comes in a yummy vanilla-mint flavor. And wait until you see our lineup; whatever gloss frequency you’re on, we’ve got you covered. Tune in to everything from blaring brights to soft neutrals in four different effects—metallic, holographic, cream and sheer cream.

Finally, a gloss that is sexy and comfy at the same time! Hi-Fi Shine Lip Gloss delivers ultra-shiny color that won’t feather or bleed and instantly makes lips look plumper. Our shade range is stacked with sheer, sparkly and pigment-rich options to amp up your look.

Our wide range of chart-topping shades includes everything from soft to loud. As expansive as this lineup is, the shades look great on every skin tone. We’re hooked on the holographic shades (like SPL and Snapped) and Naked (a must-have neutral). We’re also obsessed with Obsessed! It’s the perfect universal light pink.

The sleek, modern component is clear, so you can easily pick your shade out of a handbag. The iridescent, metallized frame makes the gloss look like it’s floating inside. Added bonus: Because the tube is flat, it fits perfectly in your pocket. The flexible, flocked-silicone paddle applicator is the newest technology and allows you to swipe on a generous, even layer of gloss. No need to double dip (but please do if you want!).”

Urban Decay always has the longest most redundant descriptions lol.

Price and Quantity

This lipgloss is priced at $23 CAD and has 0.23 oz of product.

For comparisons I have just chosen other high end lipglosses.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Company’s Product Mentioned Above Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb $23 0.3 $77/oz
2 Urban Decay Hi-Fi Cushion $23 0.23 $100/oz
3 Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipgloss $21 0.16 $131/oz
4 Buxom Full-on Lip $24 0.15 $160/oz
5 Huda Beauty Lip Strobe $23 0.14 $164/oz
6 bareMinerals GEN NUDE Buttercream Lipgloss $23 0.13 $177/oz
7 Marc Jacobs Enamoured Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lipgloss $35 0.16 $219/oz

Wow! or Waste? This lipgloss actually has a really great value, and is definitely a Wow! I have mentioned before that the value of the Fenty Gloss Bomb is especially exceptional because they include SO much product, but they are way above the norm. This new Urban Decay gloss definitely includes more than the normal amount of product, as usually you only get around 0.15 oz. Therefore, I definitely think that this could be a good product to try if you are looking for a new gloss.

Glosses are coming back in a big way this spring and summer, and what a comfortable train to hop on! I don’t know about you, but I think lots of people are becoming sick of the dry AF liquid lipstick trend. I know there are lots of people out there who are just plain afraid of glosses because they think they will be sticky. But have faith, there are some good ones out there! Let’s just hope that these are good! I have ordered the shade Backtalk to start off with, but if it is any good, I know I will be getting more!

Well that’s all for today’s Wow! or Waste? Were you thinking about purchasing this lipgloss? Will you go through with it now that you know its value? Comment down below!

    1. Yes! Depending on how the formula is it could be really good! Something I can guarantee as a good lipgloss though is the Anastasia Beverly Hills one! I am totally obsessed and recently just REpurchased one of the shades (Kristen)! That’s right, I finished a whole lipgloss lol.

    1. In the description of one of the holo shades, SPL I think, it literally says the glitter is iridescent. Are they counting on people not knowing that iridescent and holographic are mutually exclusive?? Or are they just ignorant? lol. I’ve ordered one of the creams so I will let you know how it is when it gets here!
