Hello everyone! Long time no see!
Over the weekend I was travelling so all of my social platforms definitely went dark. Luckily though, I was able to accomplish what I set out to do over the weekend, I bought a new (to me) car! In January someone drove into my car when I was on my way to work, and totalled it (although it was still driveable = a rolling total), so I have been searching for a new one ever since. Obviously since I am a grad student I can’t just go out and purchase something new, so I got a pre-owned cherry red 2007 Yaris hatchback that is very cute. It’s definitely the smallest car I have ever owned.
Anyways, dealing with all of that nonsense, surrendering my old damaged car and doing all the paperwork has certainly put me a bit behind in the blogging world. Usually at the beginning of the week I post a new Palette Roulette, but I have recently decided that when a new palette comes into my life that I really want to play with, I will do a post about that instead. There are only so many days in the week to do makeup, so it would be difficult to do a Palette Roulette and play with a new palette. Theoretically though, I think most of you would prefer to see the newer palettes more quickly than those that are just chilling in my collection.
The Colourpop X Kathleen Lights Dream St. palette is not exactly something new, but I finally bit the bullet and I couldn’t wait to play with it. So without further ado, let’s get into a quick review and some eye looks!
Quick Take
As I said last week in my Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge entry, the Dream St. Eyeshadow Palette is a neutral and colour lover’s dream come true. There are so many beautiful neutral copper, champagne and rose gold shades for every day looks, but you have real pops of teal blue and fluorescent pink red to really spice things up. In this palette there are metallic, matte and satin shades to play with.
This palette is priced at $16 USD and you get 0.36 oz of product, which is smaller than the typical eyeshadow palette (usually around 0.5 oz), but of course the price makes up for that!
Shade Descriptions
Shooting Star: matte soft golden brown
Magical: matte yellow peach
Star Dust: metallic true copper
Twinkle: metallic true rose gold
Sweet Dreams: metallic soft champagne with a peachy pink flip
Water Bearer: matte cool teal
Potion: matte vivid reddish rust
Spark: matte neon red
Kaleidoscope: metallic intense silvery nude
Elfish: matte rich red brown
Moony: satin soft baby pink
Mermaid Boy: metallic deep teal
Packaging
The packaging is definitely on trend, white with rose gold details with an abstract design that is truly dreamy. This palette is a typical cardboard palette that is magnetized. It doesn’t come with a mirror unfortunately, but that doesn’t bother me if it is going to keep the price low. The pans that come in these palettes are slightly smaller than Colourpop’s single shadows.
Performance
Every single one of these shadows is simply stunning. I have used all of the shades and they are all impeccable. The mattes blend virtually seamlessly and they have great pigmentation. The one satin (Moony) has just the right amount of shine and is perfect for an inner corner and brow bone highlight. The metallics are stunning all over the lid, especially if you apply them on top of a tacky base. I did not try wetting the metallics, and they still looked amazing.
Overall, this is one of the best palettes I own in terms of performance and quality. Colourpop is simply killing it with their palettes lately. The shade selection is pretty unique, giving you some must have shades, and maybe some shades that you wouldn’t think to pick up on your own.
Here are some of the eye looks that I have created with this palette so far:
Rose Gold Dream
Shadows Used:
Magical: Crease.
Shooting Star: Crease.
Elfish: Outer corner to deepen. Even though this is a pretty deep brown, it blends so well!
Twinkle: Pressed all over the lid with my finger after cutting the crease with concealer. This is probably my favourite metallic shade in the whole palette. Such a pretty rose gold!
Moony: Brow bone and inner corner. I love this on the brow bone!
Amber Muse
Shadows Used:
Shooting Star: Crease.
Potion: Outer corner and crease. A very pretty warm shade.
Elfish: Outer corner to deepen.
Star Dust: Pressed all over the lid with my finger after cutting the crease with concealer. This is such a beautiful deeper amber shade.
Moony: Brow bone and inner corner.
Siren’s Song
Shadows Used:
Shooting Star: Crease.
Elfish: Crease.
Water Bearer: Crease and packed on the outer corner. This matte shade is incredibly pigmented. It blends pretty nicely, however I noticed that there was a lot of kickup in the pan, and I did experience some fall out, so that is something to be aware of.
Kaleidoscope: Inner corner and pressed on the inner third of the lid with my finger after cutting the crease with concealer. This shade is described as a silver nude, but I swear there is also a little bit of blue in there.
Mermaid Boy: Pressed on middle inner third of the lid with my finger. This shade swatches darker than it looks on the lid, that is for sure. When swatched it looks like it has a black base, but it is a very nice blue on the lid when applied over a lighter concealer.
Lakeside Sunset
Shadows Used:
Magical: Crease.
Spark: Crease. This shade applied quite a bit darker than it looked in the pan, so I tried to really build it up and still have it be bright.
Water Bearer: Lower in the crease and packed on in the inner and outer corners. Again, this shade was very pigmented and packed on really well. However, it definitely stained my eyelids a bit!
Kaleidoscope: Inner corner and pressed on the center of the lid after applying concealer.
Final Thoughts
This palette is a total winner, and is potentially a must have for everyone!
- The colour story is diverse, yet wearable.
- You get a variety of finishes and all of them are buttery and easy to use.
- The mattes are very blendable.
- The metallics definitely pack a punch and you get so many beautiful shades.
- They don’t fade with wear.
- This palette is only $16 USD!
The only thing that I could foresee this palette missing is a lighter white or cream matte shade. But this is the type of shade that everyone should already have, and honestly I didn’t need it for any of these looks.
Have you purchased this palette or any other palettes from Colourpop? Which are your favourites? Comment down below!
Car shopping is probably one of my least favourite things. I hate dealing with the haggling and generally not knowing what I’m getting into, I don’t know a whole lot about cars. It’s nice you were able to get something finally!
I love all your eye looks as usual but especially the last two! I love those blue shades. I need this palette one day!

Yes it’s so hard to not feel completely ignorant with cars! Especially when you aren’t buying new. Anyways, it seems to have worked out so that’s what counts!
Thanks so much! The blue shades are especially stunning! The rest are pretty run of the mill, but they are great quality and so pretty!

Eeek, I’m glad you weren’t hurt in the accident! A new car is always exciting though 🙂
Beautiful looks! I always love seeing your intense blue/green eye looks even though I’m never brave enough to wear them myself, haha.

Thank you! Yes, I’m definitely excited about the new car now! I was definitely a bit apprehensive at first.
Thank you! Yes, they are certainly intense. To be honest I don’t always wear those looks out 😛 It’s a bit much for university sometimes lol

Really want this palette! Colourpop isn’t easy to get in the UK though because of customs fees 🙁

Usually we get hit pretty hard here in Canada with the customs fees too! But I think Canada has backed off a bit with the amounts that they usually charge. I haven’t had to pay any lately, and on big orders too! If you do decide to order something you should definitely go in with a few friends so you can split it!

I just make big orders for myself 😂 yeah it’s because our postal carrier put an automatic charge on top of the actual fee so it’s better to make large orders and only have to pay the extra charge once.

Such a detailed review and you have created some amazing looks😍😍 I love them more if eyeliner was matte but it’s only a personal preference☺☺

Thank you! I do use the Kat Von D Ink Liner which is supposed to be matte, but you’re right it does look kind of shiny in some of these photos. Might be just because I use such high levels of lighting to take them! It’s matte in person ☺️
