Hello everyone! Today I just wanted to do a quick review of a sample that I received of the Benefit BADgal Bang! Volumising Mascara. I was lucky enough to get this sample from Sephora with a $25 purchase before they ran out! Personally, I don’t really “believe” in high end mascaras. I love drugstore mascaras and I just don’t think the price of high end mascaras is worth it, so I have definitely gone into this biased. But let’s see what I thought!
This mascara is claimed to be “a 36-hour, full-blast, volumizing mascara that layers easily to build massive volume without weighing down lashes.” Apparently it even contains “…aero-particles, which are one of the lightest known materials, derived from space technology.” This mascara is priced at $32 CAD ($24 USD) and has 0.30 oz of product.
While the sample I received doesn’t have quite the same packaging, the mini and full size mascaras have a very cool studded lid with pink and white detailing on the tube. The brush is tapered so that the tip of the mascara wand has extremely tiny bristles, and the base has longer bristles. I definitely find this mascara wand unique.
When first applied, this mascara looked great as a one coater! You get big impact with only a little effort and it is very pigmented. If I weren’t testing it out, I would have left it at one coat, but I added another coat to see how it built up.
When I did apply another layer, things definitely got clumpy. This mascara is a more wet formula, which encourages more clumps and makes your lashes stick together. So, if you really want to build up more volume with multiple coats, you will likely need to comb out your lashes to help redefine them. When I did comb them out, they looked great!
Wear through the day
When I wore this through the day, I couldn’t believe how incredibly well this mascara made my lashes hold a curl. I have a lot of trouble finding mascaras that don’t make my lashes drop, and this one did such a good job. Even though this mascara formula was pretty wet, it dried really fast, which I think contributed to making it hold my curl.
Other than that, this mascara looked just as good all day. I didn’t experience any flaking or any other bad side effects. When I went to wash my face, it did take a bit more work to remove than my usual mascaras, so I do think that it is water-resistant, which is one of its claims.
Overall, I am actually so impressed with this mascara! Below are some before and after photos during the application process. Honestly, I always think close up pictures of mascara on eyelashes looks weird and spidery, but I included those for full disclosure. What really matters is how it looks on you overall and from far away, so I have a full face shot of me afterwards. I really liked how this mascara looked on!
Even though I don’t “believe” in high end mascaras, if I were to purchase one, this would be it. Let’s go over the reasons why:
- Great effect with one coat
- Very volumized with two coats
- Holds curl like you wouldn’t believe
- Doesn’t flake
- Water resistant
The only con was that I had to comb it out after two coats, but that didn’t bother me much. I often like to redefine my lashes with a comb after mascara application. I also maybe didn’t love this mascara on my lower lashes, but it wasn’t really a big deal and I probably could have put more effort into combing them out.
