Wow! or Waste? Anastasia Beverly Hills Spring Releases

Hey everyone! Welcome back to Wow! or Waste? Whether a whole collection has been launched, or just a new product, I’m going to evaluate whether each product is either a Wow! buy or a Waste? of money, in terms of the price and the amount of product you get.

This time around we are evaluating the new Spring releases by Anastasia Beverly Hills. This isn’t a collection launch per say, but they have released quite a few new items as well as new shades of pre-existing items, so it would be nice to evaluate whether all of these products are worth your money! I know there are quite a few things that I am interested in, now that they are releasing at Sephora!

As things are now, all of these items are available on the ABH website, but today (March 6) they are all launching at Sephora online and will be in stores March 8/10 (there is differing information out there).

If you are curious about whether the items you are interested in are Wow! or Waste?then please keep reading.

Price and Quantity

This eyeshadow palette is priced at $55 CAD ($42 USD) and has 0.28 oz of product.

All ABH eyeshadow palettes are well known to include barely any product (they all have 0.28 oz), and this new release is no exception. Remarkably, when you compare the numbers, these palettes have about HALF the amount of product typically included in a palette, and yet they are around the same price as most high end palettes. This is certainly something that you need to consider.

For the price comparisons I have chosen some classic high end eye shadow palettes that are more on the neutral side of things.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Product Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Number of Shades Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Tarte Tartelette in Bloom $60 0.636 12 $94/oz
2 Too Faced Chocolate Bar $59 0.62 16 $95/oz
3 Bobbi Brown Nude Drama $69 0.64 12 $108/oz
4 Urban Decay Naked $66 0.6 12 $110/oz
5 NARS NARSissist Wanted $74 0.48 12 $154/oz
6 ABH Soft Glam $55 0.28 14 $196/oz

Wow! or Waste? I think it is clear that all ABH palettes are ultimately a Waste? when it comes to the amount of product you get. If bang for your buck is very important to you, then this is important to know. However, I have known this all along and it has not and will not stop me from purchasing ABH palettes. Something that overcomes value in terms of amount of product is value in terms of quality of product. With makeup formulas like eyeshadow, often the formulas between certain high end companies can be relatively comparable as they are all levels of “good” (for example, I think Tarte, Too Faced, Urban Decay are all good). However, I think the quality of ABH eyeshadows is exceptionally good, therefore I will be purchasing this palette even if it is kind of a rip off compared to other products on the market.

Amrezy Highlighter

Product Information

“The limited edition Amrezy Highlighter is an illuminating powder that achieves the perfect glow. With the feel of second-skin, this ultra-smooth formula delivers a radiant finish and reflects a light, brilliant gold.”

“I live for the perfect glow-it’s a constant focus in my makeup routine. I’m always looking for the most luminous glow with a natural, second skin finish. This collaboration with ABH brings my highlighter dreams to life, and I’m so happy to share this “sun in a compact” with my Rezy riders.”
– Amrezy

Price and Quantity

This highlighter is priced at $36 CAD ($28 USD) and has 0.31 oz of product.

For comparisons I chose other high end highlighters that come as a single and have a powder formula (mostly).

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Company’s Product Mentioned Above Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Too Faced Diamond Light $42 0.42 $100/oz
2 ABH Amrezy Highlighter $36 0.31 $116/oz
3 Too Faced Love Light Prismatic $38 0.32 $119/oz
4 Stila Heaven’s Hue $42 0.35 $120/oz
5 Fenty Killawatt Freestyle $42 0.28 $150/oz
6 Make Up For Ever Pro Fusion $48 0.3 $160/oz
7 Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed $46 0.28 $164/oz

Wow! or Waste? Well I am very happy to say that this highlighter is a Wow! ranking in 2nd place. When I initially saw the price I had a pretty good feeling about it, and I am glad to see that I was right! I will definitely be ordering this highlighter today!

Powder Bronzer

Product Information

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Bronzer features a finely-milled formula that offers buildable coverage and seamless blending. With a natural matte finish, this powder bronzer feels traceless on the face and body, adding warmth for a sunkissed look.

Shade Descriptions
Rosewood: Light golden

Tawny: Light terracotta brown
Rich Amber: Neutral honey
Cappuccino: Deep golden brown
Saddle: Golden amber
Mahogany: Mocha”

Price and Quantity

These bronzers are priced at $39 CAD ($28 USD) and have 0.35 oz of product. One thing I don’t understand is why this this bronzer and the Amrezy highlighter are both $28 USD, yet for Canadians they differ in price by $3? Kind of off-putting that’s for sure.

For a comparison I have just chosen other high end matte powder bronzers!

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Company’s Product Mentioned Above Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Marc Jacobs O!Mega Bronzer Perfect Tan $59 0.8 $74/oz
2 Too Faced Chocolate Soleil $38 0.35 $109/oz
3 ABH Powder Bronzer $39 0.35 $111/oz
4 Urban Decay Beached Bronzer $35 0.31 $113/oz
5 Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer $38 0.32 $119/oz
6 Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer $38 0.28 $136/oz
7 NARS Sun Wash Diffusing Bronzer $52 0.28 $186/oz
8 Bobbi Brown Bronzer $54 0.28 $193/oz

Wow! or Waste? Ranking at third place, this bronzer is maybe on the edge of Wow!, but isn’t the best deal out there. The only two bronzers that rank above this one are the Marc Jacobs Bronzer and the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil, which is my all time favourite bronzer. Because this bronzer isn’t so bad a deal I might consider trying it out!

Price and Quantity

These liquid lipsticks are priced at $26 CAD ($20 USD) and have 0.11 oz of product.

While this liquid lipstick formula is not new, I haven’t actually done a comparison with this product, so let’s go ahead and do that. I will compare it to other high end dry-down matte liquid lipsticks.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Company’s Product Mentioned Above Cost
($ CAD)
Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Too Faced Melted Matte $25 0.4 $63/oz
2 Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick $24 0.22 $109/oz
3 Tarte Tartiest Creamy Matte Lip Paint $24 0.2 $120./oz
4 Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick $24 0.17 $141/oz
5 Huda Beauty Liquid Matte $26 0.17 $153/oz
6 bareMinerals GEN NUDE Matte Liquid Lipcolor $23 0.13 $177/oz
7 NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment $34 0.18 $188/oz
8 Smashbox Always on Matte $28 0.13 $215/oz
9 ABH Liquid Lipstick $26 0.11 $236/oz
10 Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick $29 0.1 $290/oz

Wow! or Waste? Unfortunately, ABH liquid lipsticks are definitely a Waste? The Too Faced Melted Matte has always knocked it out of the park since they include a ton of product, but most brands include more product than ABH, leaving this liquid lipstick ranked at #9. As I am not totally a liquid lipstick person, this doesn’t really disappoint me. I have also heard that the ABH liquid lipsticks are quite drying, so that makes them especially not my thing! A liquid lipstick that I have been loving lately though is the Physician’s Formula Healthy Lip Velvet Liquid Lipstick, and you can read my review of that here.

Overall New Releases Value

Overall, these new spring releases have either done really well, or really poorly. It’s funny how different products can bounce from either end of the scale.

Even though the Soft Glam Eye Shadow Palette did poorly, I will still be purchasing it because I know that I love the ABH eyeshadow formula. I also love the colour story of that palette and I know that I will get a ton of use out of it since it is so wearable. I am also very interested in the Amrezy highlighter and the bronzers, so I am glad that they are priced well, and I just might pick those up!

Here is the overview of what we have learned through this Anastasia Beverly Hills Spring Release edition of Wow! or Waste?

Product Product Category Rank Within category Wow! or Waste?
Soft Glam Eye Shadow Palette 6 Waste?
Amrezy Highlighter Highlighter 2 Wow!
Powder Bronzer Bronzer 3 Wow!/neither
Liquid Lipstick Liquid Lipstick 9 Waste?

  1. The ABH Soft Glam looks so boring, but I am oddly drawn to it and still want it?? haha. While I think everything in this release is absolutely gorgeous, I think the palette is the only thing I’m interested in getting. The highlighter is really beautiful but I feel like the colour is very dupeable and I probably already own something similar!

    1. I feel the same way! It’s so neutral, but I think because there are both browns and pinks it’s a tiny bit different than other neutral palettes out there. I agree that the highlighter probably looks like a million other gold highlighters, but I have ordered it so I will report back to you what I think in the end!

  2. The eyeshadow palette looks really pretty as usual, but the shades are so generic, that I couldn’t care less about them 😀 I’m sure I already have all of them in many of my palettes, so it’s a pass from me. The lipsticks look bomb though!

    1. The shades are definitely so neutral. It’s funny, usually when neutral palettes come out I couldn’t be less interested. But for some reason this one speaks to me. Perhaps it is just knowing that the ABH formula is bomb! I also love that it includes neutral browns and pinks, so I don’t have anything quite like it.
The lipstick shades look so nice! Those blues.. like wow I kind of want one lol.

  3. Thanks for the great info on the ABH products! Still a little on the fence for me, but that eye pallet is just soooo beautiful!! I just may be jumping that fence! 😉

  4. I find the amount of product in ABH palettes to be a bit of a rip off but like you said, the formula is exceptionally good compared to other palettes on the market. I want to be wowed by the soft glam but I think I’d buy the modern renaissance instead as I already have similar shades to the soft glam.

You may have just sold me on the Amrezy highlighter. I’ve seen so many blog posts about it and it’s beautiful, and I just learned from your post that it’s a pretty good value 😀 I want it soooo bad!

  5. The soft glam palette draws my eye, but I know I don’t need it? I have all those colors and it would be a waste, but I still feel the need to but it! 😂😂 The bronzers look gorgeous, I might have to pick one up. I don’t neeeeed another highlight, so I’m not sure if I’ll get the Amrezy one. 🤔

    1. The palette is definitely so neutral, but I do feel like it is neutral with a twist. Most neutral palettes are either all browns or all pinks or whatever, so I like that this one has a mix of both. The bronzers definitely do like nice, but I would like to swatch them in person in store. I have ordered the highlighter, so we will see how that goes!
