Kat Von D Studded Kiss VoxBox

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to give you the insider view into a VoxBox I received complimentary from Influenster, the Kat Von D Studded Kiss VoxBox.

Don’t know what Influenster is? Influenster is an online community where you can review different products, ranging from beauty, family and home to food. Because of this, Influenster is a great resource that can help you make smart purchasing decisions, which I am all about. In addition to this, Influenster is constantly publishing really helpful articles that revolve around the release of new products. The major draw of this website is that, depending on your social media influence, you may even be sent complimentary items to test in exchange for your honest review of these products. These products come to you in a package called a “VoxBox”. I have received three VoxBoxes now. If you haven’t already, you can check out my other VoxBox posts below!

  1. Clairol Color Crave VoxBox
  2. Covergirl Vitalist VoxBox

Please know, that although I received these items free from Influenster, all thoughts and opinions expressed here and on my blog are always my own opinions and have not been solicited in any way.

So, if you would like to hear about this new VoxBox, then please keep reading!

Kat Von D Studded Kiss VoxBox

This VoxBox came with one full sized Kat Von D Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in the shade “OG Lolita”. This was super exciting since these lipsticks were sent out to us before they had even launched!

Packaging and First Impressions

These Studded Kiss Creme Lipsticks are supposed to be a new and improved version of the old Studded Kiss Lipsticks.

I am absolutely in love with the packaging and the amount of detail that went into it! First of all, the unit carton itself matches the packaging of the lipstick, with an external studded detail. I just love this touch and attention to detail. The lipstick component also has the studding detail, which is the same as the old Studded Lipstick packaging. I love this texture and I do not find it uncomfortable to hold during application. Another attention to detail aspect is the fact that the lid and the base component have an interlocking feature, so that the lipstick cap can only close so that the studs line up! The lipstick bullet has an imprint of the KVD logo which is also a nice touch.

One of the best parts of this lipstick is that it smells so good! In fact, this might be the best smelling lipstick I have ever smelled… It’s kind of like vanilla icing.. so delicious.

These lipsticks come in 40 shades and 3 different finishes, metallic, satin and shimmer. Like I mentioned before, I received the shade “OG Lolita”, which is described as a “satin-matte dusty rose”.

Price and Quantity

This lipstick is priced at $23 CAD ($19 USD) and has 0.12 oz of product.

For comparisons, I chose high end lipsticks that were matte/satin in finish.

Here are the comparisons listed from best value to worst value:

Rank Company’s Product Mentioned Above Cost ($ CAD) Quantity (oz) Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product
1 Too Faced Peach Kiss Moisture Matte $25 0.14 $179/oz
2 Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick $23 0.12 $192/oz
2 Kat Von D Studded Kiss Crème $23 0.12 $192/oz
3 Urban Decay Vice Lipstick $22 0.11 $200/oz
4 Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche $30 0.15 $200/oz
5 MAC Lipstick $22 0.1 $220/oz
6 Tarte Color Splash Lipstick $27 0.12 $225/oz
7 Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte $23 0.06 $383/oz

Well I am very happy to see that this lipstick is actually a great deal! It is tied for second place with the ABH Matte lipstick, in terms of value (and I don’t like those lipsticks; too dry and cracky). The only one that is better is the Too Faced Moisture Matte, which I also thought was terrible. You can read that review here.

Here are the claims from the Kat Von D website:

“Introducing the new and reborn Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick, the creamiest, most cushiony and unbelievably pigmented lipstick to ever cross your lips.

Discover your new go-to color from Kat Von D’s biggest, boldest shade range. The collection includes 40 shades in 3 finishes (satin-matte, glimmer and metallic) featuring rich reds, bold berries, neutrals for every complexion and beloved Everlasting Liquid Lipstick shades, now in Studded Kiss. Or use “White Out” mixer, Kat Von D’s first-ever pure white long wear lipstick, to mix and customize your own perfect shades.

Kat Von D Beauty is always on the forefront of innovation, searching for ways to amplify and improve our already long-wear, high-pigment products. Originally created in 2014, the Studded Kiss collection is now reimagined with an updated look featuring monochromatic black studded packaging and a breakthrough new formula.

See and feel the difference instantly. Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick features a high-chroma content for pure, vivid color in a revolutionary new base formula that’s crystal clear, super-soft and virtually weightless. Made with smooth spherical pigments and lip-nourishing ingredients, it’s never been easier to coat your lips in creamy, comfortable color.”

Pigmentation and Performance

This new and improved formula is just that! The old Studded Kiss formula was very stiff and dry, albeit pigmented. This new formula is definitely way more creamy!

This lipstick is very creamy when applied, although it is the tiniest bit stiff. It is very pigmented and basically opaque with one layer. The finish is a satin-matte. It has the tiniest bit of shine to it when freshly applied, but after a bit it sets down to be a full matte.

The shade that I received was Lolita, which is seriously my HG shade. It is such a beautiful nude brown rose, so I see what all the hype is about this shade now! This lipstick comes in so many different shades, so I will definitely be checking out some others!

When worn throughout the day, obviously this is a cream lipstick, so it is not transfer-proof. However, a lot of the pigment remains on your lips through drinking and light eating. I found this lipstick to be neither hydrating or dehydrating, to my surprise. I still expected this new formula to be a bit dry, but it was really nice! Very neutral on the lips, and I have very dry lips.

Overall, this is definitely a new lipstick formula that I will be trying more of! I absolutely recommend that you check it out if you like more satin-matte lipsticks.

Here are all of the swatches of the shade “OG Lolita”.

Here I am wearing it! It snowed two inches after I took that photo, which is rare for where I live!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I am so happy that I was chosen for this VoxBox! Up until now, the items that Canadians have received have really paled in comparison to those who get the US Influenster. People in the US have gotten Marc Jacobs eyeshadow palettes for crying out loud! So the fact that we were included in receiving this brand new lipstick was so exciting and I am so thankful. I am very glad to see things heading in this direction for Canadians! And I know it isn’t Influenster’s fault necessarily. It all depends on where that company wants to target, and I understand that. I just hope more and more companies realize that Canada has a lot of money to spend! Because we do!

Well, thanks so much for reading everyone! If you ever have any questions about Influenster, please don’t hesitate to ask me. If you haven’t signed up for Influenster and would like to, please consider using my referral link. All it does is slightly improve my “Social Impact Score”, so it’s totally fine if you don’t!

  1. This is such a pretty shade on you!

I’ve never been particularly interested in KVD’s Studded Kiss lipsticks because I had a sample size of Lolita and found it to be a bit drying. But the fact that you said it’s much more creamy really intrigues me!

I kind of wish Influenster sent people more than one shade – would have been nice to see people test out OG Lolita plus a darker or a brighter shade in a different finish.

    1. Thank you! Yes, I also have a sample size of the original formula and it is ridiculous how drying it is. I’ve only used it once, and should probably throw it out. This new formula though is pretty great and definitely isn’t too drying. It’s not moisturizing, but it doesn’t make my lips feel terrible, so that’s what counts. It definitely would have been nice to try a few different shades. I would have been happy with two or three minis, but I definitely appreciate the value of the one full size lipstick 🙂

  2. Lovely shade on you, and such a great in-depth review as always! I made sure to use your link to sign up for Influenster! 🙂 I’ve never been on that site before, so I’m so glad you posted this review, as I am definitely going to be on there quite a lot now after checking it out! I hate to hear that Canadians have not been receiving the same quality of products as U.S Influencers. Hopefully this is the beginning to them doing better!

    1. Thanks so much! If you ever have any questions about Influenster don’t hesitate to ask! It took me a couple of months to start getting products, but I started with next to no social media impact. So it took me those months to build it up and leave a bunch of reviews on the website, which helps too. Also, being in Canada probably affected how long it took to start receiving products. Lots of companies just don’t target Canada, so that isn’t Influenster’s fault, but it is too bad!
