Hey everyone! Today I wanted to share with you some products that I received complimentary from Chick Advisor in exchange for a 100% honest review.

Chick Advisor is another website that acts as an online community for sharing product reviews for items in categories like beauty, wellness, food & drink, shopping, mom & baby, and house & home. You can also choose to join the Product Review Club on their website, where if you review enough products and have a high enough social media following, they may send you complimentary products for testing purposes. However, Chick Advisor is different in that it focuses on reviews from Canadian women, which is refreshing and really quite exciting. If you want to check out my previous Chick Advisor posts, I have reviewed two eos Organic Lip Balms, two Protein Shakes from Premier Protein and some CND Creative Play Nail Lacquers.

Maybelline New York Brow Products Product Review Club

The items for this product review club arrived in a bubble envelope. Inside the envelope, there were three products from Maybelline, along with two info cards. The products that were included in this product review club were:

  1. Maybelline New York Brow Drama Shaping Chalk in “Deep Brown”
  2. Maybelline New York Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer in “Soft Brown”
  3. Maybelline New York Brow Precise Micro Crayon in “Deep Brown”

So let’s get into the reviews!

Maybelline New York Brow Drama Shaping Chalk

Packaging and First Impressions

This brow chalk comes in a tube that has a short paddle-shaped doe-foot applicator. I received the shade “Deep Brown”, however the powder doesn’t look that dark. This may mean that this product will certainly look more natural/discrete once applied.

Price and Quantity

On the information card, this brow chalk/powder is priced at $11.99 CAD and has 0.035 oz of product. Because this is a drugstore item, price will certainly vary by retailer. I would wager that this product can fluctuate in price from $6.99-$11.99, depending on sales etc. I, personally, am not so familiar with brow powders, so I am not totally sure what the selection is in drugstores. But I don’t think that there is a huge selection out there.

Here are the claims from the Maybelline New York website:

“Bring on boldly filled, softly-shaped brows with Maybelline’s first ever brow powder. The loose powder formula fills in smooth color, while the thick-to-thin brush applicator creates instant definition. Flawlessly shaped brows are made easy.”

Performance and Pigmentation

This brow powder is relatively easy to apply, however maintaining precision is not easy. You can’t really get any fine or crisp lines with this powder, so I would suggest that you do your brows with this product before the rest of your makeup so that you can clean up the tail of your brow easily. Alternatively, you can always clean up with concealer. The point is, you will have to clean them up some way because it will be necessary.

The doe-foot applicator seems to apply a good amount of powder, not too much and not too little. The shade that I received was “Deep Brown”, which is surprising since when used and swatched, it’s not really that dark. To me, it seems more like a medium ashy brown. Anyways, the shade does work for me, it just gives me a more subtle fill-in.

I didn’t notice any fading after using this powder, however it is a good idea to set your brows with a brow gel when using powders. It will help the powder stay in place, and obviously your brow hairs too. I like to use a clear brow gel.

Final Thoughts

I definitely don’t mind this brow chalk. I think that this could be the perfect product for those who don’t like intense brows. It will be perfect for no makeup days for me. It is easy to use, but does require clean up. You should also use a brow gel with it, so it isn’t a one stop shop. But overall, I think it is a good product.

Maybelline New York Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer

Packaging and First Impressions

This brow gel/mascara comes in a tube that has a longer oval-shaped applicator, that is smooth on one side, and bristled on the other. There are visible fibers in the formula. I received the shade “Soft Brown”.

Price and Quantity

On the information card, this tinted brow gel is priced at $11.99 CAD and has 0.27 oz of product. Again, because this is a drugstore item, price will certainly vary by retailer. When browsing through Walmart, it looks like the typical amount of product in a brow gel ranges from 0.1-0.2 oz, therefore this brow get has a lot of product! Something to consider when price comparing in the store.

Here are the claims from the Maybelline New York website:

“Brows get a three-dimensional WOW effect. Maybelline’s fiber-infused gel formula adds volume and color for an instant brow boost. The tapered spoon brush delivers precise application from corner to corner.”

Pigmentation and Performance

Due to the shape of the applicator, this brow gel is really easy to apply accurately. I found that only using one layer of this gel worked best, since more than that made my brows get too covered in gel, causing them to look a little strange and stringy. However, this indicates that this brow gel has the potential to have great hold!

This brow gel certainly has good pigmentation, and there are definitely fibres in there. Unfortunately, this colour does not work for me. It is simply too light for my tastes. However, I do know that there are people out there who like to use lighter brow gels to give their brows “highlights”. So if you have a similar shade of hair as me and like to do that, then this shade of gel may work for you.

I didn’t really notice that this brow gel made my brows look bigger or fuller, despite the presence of fibres. Once set, this brow gel held all of my hairs in place and didn’t budge all day.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think it is a good gel, but it didn’t actually add volume to my brows, and it was not the right shade for me. Honestly, it looks kind of gross in the picture above, but it didn’t look so bad in real life. The colour just wasn’t right. I typically prefer to fill in my brows with a pencil or pomade, and then use a clear gel to set them.

Maybelline New York Brow Precise Micro Crayon

Packaging and First Impressions

This brow pencil is a double ended product, that has a retractable pencil on one side, and a spooly on the other. The pencil side is soo thin and seems to have a good level of creaminess and waxiness. The shade I received was “Deep Brown”.

Price and Quantity

On the information card, this brow pencil is priced at $11.99 CAD and has 0.002 oz of product. Again, price will certainly vary by retailer because this is sold in drugstores. I have seen this brown pencil on sale as low as $6.99, so it certainly can have great value. I think this price is very comparable to other brow pencils in the drugstore. I have heard some people say that this brow pencil is a great dupe for the Anastasia Brow Wiz, which is priced at $27 CAD and has 0.003 oz of product. So obviously this Maybelline New York Brow Precise Micro Crayon is a great deal, especially when compared to that!

Here are the claims from the Maybelline New York website:

Brow Precise® Micro Pencil features an ultra-fine 1.5mm tip and grooming brush to deliver micro-precision in every stroke.”

Pigmentation and Performance

Overall, this brow pencil does a great job of both filling in your brows, and keeping it pretty natural. The shade that I received was definitely perfect for me. Because the pencil is so thin it is perfect for doing detailed strokes in your brows, and for keeping the tail very fine. Additionally, it isn’t too creamy, and it isn’t too waxy, so an appropriate amount of product dispenses when you use it. You should be careful though to not roll up too much product, since I have found that it breaks easily.

I love that this brow pencil comes with a spooly, so that you can brush through the product as you go. Once applied, the product does not fade or move around. I do like to set my brows afterwards with a clear brow gel when using a pencil. Below is a picture of my brow done with this pencil. If you are wondering about my eye look, it’s from November’s BoxyCharm post. Who’s ready for Christmas?

Final Thoughts

This is one of the best brow pencils that I have used. Usually drugstore brow pencils are just too thick, but this one is the perfect size! It applies smoothly and accurately, without depositing too much product. Afterwards, you can brush through the product to give you defined, but natural-looking brows.

Overall, if I were to rank all of these products from best to worst for my personal preferences, it would be:

  1. Maybelline Brow Precise Micro Crayon
  2. Maybelline Brow Drama Shaping Chalk
  3. Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer

This ranking is largely affected by what I look for in brow products: I want pigmented and defined brows. For this I need a deeper shade, and an accurate way to apply the product. The Brow Precise Micro Crayon is perfect for this. However, if I want to go for a softer look, or if there is a day where I am wearing no makeup but I still want to fill in my brows, the Brow Drama Shaping Chalk is perfect. The only item that I will not be using again is the Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer. This is not to say that the product is bad, it just doesn’t work for me. The shade is not right and it doesn’t actually add volume to my brows. I also don’t think I will go out and purchase the correct shade, since I do prefer to just use a clear brow gel. These are the main determinants of this decision.

Well, that’s it for this Chick Advisor Product Review Club. This was a great one to be selected for, and I got to try so many new products!

Have you tried these Maybelline brow products? What are your favourite drugstore brow products?
