Hello everyone! In the last couple of months I purchased a gift set from bareMinerals that included a small selection of their GEN NUDE lip products. The Nudes for Days set includes three mini GEN NUDE Matte Liquid Lipcolors and three mini GEN NUDE Buttercream Lipglosses.
I have heard quite a few good things from various Youtubers about the GEN NUDE liquid lipstick, mainly that the formula is really comfortable and and wearable, so I have wanted to give it a try. If you are a regular reader, you will know that I am very sensitive to having dry lips, therefore I usually refuse to wear liquid lipsticks. Instead of trying this liquid lipstick formula by just purchasing one from their regular line, having a colour selection is always preferable, so I was happy to buy this set of minis so that I could not only have a few colours to choose from, but I could also give the lipgloss formula a try too!
Below, I have given the description of the gift set overall from the bareMinerals website (I can only seem to find it on the bareMinerals UK website, even though I purchased this through Sephora Canada originally), and then I have broken down the set into individual reviews for the GEN NUDE Matte Liquid Lipcolor and the GEN NUDE Buttercream Lipgloss.
If you want to hear more about these products, and see colour swatches, please keep reading!

GEN NUDE Matte Liquid Lipcolor
Packaging and First Impressions
These liquid lipsticks come in a typical tube component that is clear so that you can see the shade of the product, but with a mattified finish. The applicator is a small paddle-shaped doe-foot that doesn’t seem to hold a ton of product, which is okay, since I typically scrape off all excess for liquid lipstick application. The formula is different from typical liquid lipsticks, in that it is of a more mousse-y or whipped texture. Something that delighted me when I first went to apply this product is that it smells like chocolate milk! The claims say that it is supposed to be vanilla, but I really do think it smells like there is some chocolate in there too. I have never really smelled that particular scent in a makeup product and I love it!
This liquid lipstick comes in 20 shades ranging from brown nudes, to pinks to deeper berries. The shades that I have are Icon (rich brown mauve), Weekend (honeyed pink peach), and Juju (deep rosy mauve).
Price and Quantity
This liquid lipstick is priced at $23 CAD ($19 USD) and has 0.13 oz in the full size. The minis in this kit have 0.06 oz of product.
Let’s price compare to some other popular liquid lipsticks at Sephora: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($24 CAD/0.22 oz), Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick ($26 CAD/0.17 oz), Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick ($29 CAD/0.10 oz), Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick ($25 CAD/0.4 oz), and just for fun let’s also compare to the Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color ($30 CAD/0.13 oz), because I am curious about it!
Rank | Company’s Product Mentioned Above | Cost ($ CAD) | Quantity (oz) | Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product |
1 | Too Faced Melted Matte | $25 | 0.4 | $63/oz |
2 | Kat Von D Everlasting | $24 | 0.22 | $109/oz |
3 | Huda Beauty Liquid Matte | $26 | 0.17 | $153/oz |
4 | bareMinerals GEN NUDE | $23 | 0.13 | $177/oz |
5 | Fenty Beauty Stunna | $30 | 0.13 | $231/oz |
6 | Stila Stay All Day | $29 | 0.1 | $290/oz |
Well I’ve definitely seen before in a previous post that the Too Faced Melted Matte wins by far when we are considering the price of the product and how much product you get in liquid lipsticks. The bareMinerals isn’t terrible, but it isn’t great compared to these other popular liquid lipsticks, in terms of price. Same goes for that new Fenty Beauty liquid lipstick that was just released.
Claims
Here are the claims from the bareMinerals website:
“Gen Nude™ Matte Liquid Lipstick is long-wearing, cream-to-matte color with a lightweight, no-tack texture. Full coverage pigments are suspended in a silky formula that glides over lips effortlessly, then dries to a long-wearing, natural matte finish.
Formulated with moisturizing ingredients to counteract dryness, this matte liquid glides on silky smooth with a subtle vanilla scent. The flexible paddle applicator delivers full coverage in one sweep.
This liquid lipstick is gluten-free and was not tested on animals. Formulated without petrolatum.”
Pigmentation and Performance
This liquid lipstick has good pigmentation. With only one swipe, you get nearly opaque coverage. I found that accurate application was pretty easy with the paddle-shaped applicator, and that the product applied evenly, smoothly and was buildable.
As stated previously, the formula of this liquid lipstick is different from typical liquid lipsticks, in that it is of a more mousse-y or whipped texture.
When first applied, for the first 30-60 minutes I would say that it does not dry down completely. When you press your lips together, you can still move the product around. However, after a while it does set down for the most part, but it is never transfer proof. Even though it does transfer, a good amount of pigment remains on your lips. This liquid lipstick will not be one to make it through a meal though.
This liquid lipstick is extremely lightweight and comfortable. It did not at all dry out my lips. When the colour faded after eating, it faded relatively evenly, and never got dry or flaky. When reapplying, the product layered well, and previously layers didn’t need to be removed before touch up. Overall, this is a great liquid lipstick!

GEN NUDE Buttercream Lipgloss
Packaging and First Impressions
These lipglosses come in a typical tube component that is clear so that you can see the shade of the product. The applicator is the same as the liquid lipstick applicator, a small paddle-shaped doe-foot. These lipglosses did smell more vanilla-y.
This lipgloss comes in 15 shades ranging from brown nudes, to pinks to corals, some with and without pearl. The shades that I have are Cosmic (muted coral with pearl), Sugar (soft blushing mauve), and Flirt (deep mauve).
Price and Quantity
This lipgloss is priced at $23 CAD ($18 USD) and has 0.13 oz in the full size. The minis in this kit have 0.06 oz of product.
Let’s price compare to some other popular lipglosses at Sephora: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss ($21 CAD/0.16 oz), Marc Jacobs Enamoured Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lipgloss ($35 CAD/0.16 oz), Fenty Beauty Cosmic Gloss Lip Glitter ($24 CAD/0.34 oz), Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer ($23 CAD/0.3 oz), and the Buxom Full-on Lip Gloss ($24 CAD/0.15 oz).
Rank | Company’s Product Mentioned Above | Cost ($ CAD) | Quantity (oz) | Cost-Quantity Ratio for 1 oz of product |
1 | Fenty Beauty Cosmic Gloss | $24 | 0.34 | $71/oz |
2 | Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb | $23 | 0.3 | $77/oz |
3 | ABH Lipgloss | $21 | 0.16 | $131/oz |
4 | Buxom Full-on Lip | $24 | 0.15 | $160/oz |
5 | bareMinerals GEN NUDE | $23 | 0.13 | $177/oz |
6 | Marc Jacobs Enamoured | $35 | 0.16 | $219/oz |
Overall, bareMinerals is in a similar rank to the liquid lipstick comparisons that I did before this: it is vey middle of the road/higher in price for the amount of product you get. As you can see, Fenty Beauty is killing it with the value of their lipglosses (not the story for their lipsticks though, liquid or bullet. For the full story on that check out my Fenty Beauty Galaxy Collection Wow! or Waste?).
Claims
Here are the claims from the bareMinerals website:
“Gen Nude™ Buttercream Lip Gloss delivers ultra-creamy, moisturizing color with sheer buildable coverage and balmy, non-sticky shine. Formulated with plumping ingredients for fullness without the tingle. Contains a subtle vanilla scent.
This luscious cream-gloss nourishes and conditions lips so they look healthy, smooth and kissably soft. Go from day to night with a range of versatile colors. Layer over Gen Nude Radiant Lipstick for a richer look.
This product is gluten-free and was not tested on animals.”
Pigmentation and Performance
This lipgloss has reasonably good pigmentation, however, it is definitely not the best out there. You can get reasonable coverage with a couple of layers, but it takes quite a few dips of the doe-foot into the component to get enough product on the applicator, which is pretty annoying. While you can see differences in the shades swatched on my arm above, on the lip swatches below it becomes harder to tell them apart. The gloss itself applied pretty evenly with all of the shades, and gave quite a bit of shine.
The claim that this lip gloss is not sticky is basically true. There is maybe the tiniest bit of stickiness, in my opinion. However, it is quite thick and viscous-feeling as you apply it, which isn’t my favourite. But, once you have it on it doesn’t feel like there is a thick layer on your lips. I found that this lipgloss was neither hydrating or dehydrating. Of course, because this is a lipgloss, it is not transfer proof. In my experience, this lipgloss didn’t have great lasting power. When the colour transferred, not a lot of pigmentation remained on your lips.
These days, I compare all lipglosses to the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipgloss. That lipgloss formula is my holy grail. You can read my review and see lip swatches of all the 10 shades that I own here. The ABH lipgloss is smooth, very opaque, creamy, and not at all sticky. Pigmentation also remains on your lips after transfer, and it fades so nicely! This bareMinerals one is similar, in that it is not sticky, but it definitely isn’t as hydrating as ABH, and the colour pigmentation is not nearly as good. It’s funny, because I really think that the ABH lipgloss should have buttercream in the name, not this bareMinerals one, because the texture of the ABH is way more smooth and creamy. Overall, this lipgloss is pretty good, but it doesn’t quite measure up to ABH. However, I am happy to now have these in my collection!

Final Thoughts
Both of these products are pretty good. So far, this bareMinerals liquid lipstick formula is one of the best that I have found, in terms of comfortability. I also LOVE the Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips. For the gloss, because I am so in love with the ABH formula, I can’t see myself shelling out more money for any more of these glosses. But I am happy to have these ones in my collection, because overall they are pretty good!
Have you tried either of these products? Let me know what shades you love down below!
