31 Days of Reviews, Day 28: Origins Eye Doctor™ Moisture Care For Skin Around Eyes

Hello everyone and welcome to day 28 of my review challenge! Today’s review is on an eye cream that I have actually just finished! Therefore, you will also get my thoughts on whether I will repurchase or not.

Packaging and First Impressions

This eye cream comes in a small blue glass pot with a white lid. For something that is so simple it is actually very cute and aesthetically pleasing. However, this is clearly not a hygienic way of packaging a cream, so a pump would hugely improve things. I always make sure I either wash my hands before dipping in, or I use a spoon. The consistency of the cream is interesting, in that it is not thick, but not liquidy either. There is actually a pretty strong cucumber scent that I noticed in the beginning, however when sitting down to write this review today, I almost forgot it had a scent at all. Therefore, you do definitely get used to it. I think the cucumber scent is very soothing, however I can see how it might bother some people. I saw some reviews on Sephora to this effect.

Price and Quantity

This eye cream is priced at $46 CAD ($39 USD) and you get 15 mL (0.5 oz) of product. Some other popular eye creams at Sephora include: the Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream ($39 CAD for 0.5 oz), the Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Intensive Eye Contour Cream ($70 CAD for 0.51 oz), Drunk Elephant Shaba Complex Eye Serum (this looks to be a serum that doesn’t require the use of an eye cream afterwards; $72 CAD for 0.5 oz), the Clinique All About Eyes Rich ($64 CAD for 1 oz), Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream ($52 CAD for 0.5 oz), the First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Eye Cream ($40 CAD for 0.5 oz) and just for shits and giggles lets include the La Mer The Eye Concentrate ($240 CAD for 0.5 oz). Honestly, I don’t hear a lot of recommendations for eye creams, however I am constantly on the look out for the next “amazing” one.

Clearly the comparison for these products is pretty simple. It seems most eye creams are provided in the 0.5 oz size with a few exceptions. Here is are the comparisons any how, organized from best deal to worst deal:

Is anyone surprised that La Mer is at the bottom? No? I’m glad we are all living in reality then haha.

Claims

Here are the claims from the Origins website:

Performance

For the last year I had been trying out the First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Eye Cream, and then most recently, the Clinique All About Eyes Rich. I suffer from dry under eyes, at least from what I am told by various Sephora cast members, therefore I am always looking for a new miracle eye cream that can give great hydration. I do have fine lines, and at only 23 I am concerned that I maybe have more fine lines than normal (what is normal?) for my age. So when I went to Sephora, they suggested this Origins Eye Doctor eye cream as a cream that is supposed to be very hydrating.

Unfortunately, it has not lessened my fine lines at all.

However, I do like this eye cream for other reasons:

1. I really like the consistency of it. The Clinique All About Eyes Rich is pretty thick, whereas this Origins eye cream is thinner but still creamy.
2. When you apply it to your skin it seems to melt right in and absorb rather quickly.
3. I don’t mind the cucumber scent. I do think it is actually kind of soothing.
4. It works really well under makeup because it is so lightweight and absorbs so fast. I have taken to using this eye cream as my day eye cream, and then the Clinique All About Eyes Rich at night since it is thicker (I have a ton of this Clinique eye cream left [I swear it is going to last me forever] so I am trying to work my way through it despite wanting to try out new eye creams).

What I do not like is that this eye cream has not visibly improved my fine lines. However, maybe no eye cream will do that. Maybe this eye cream is giving me a ton of hydration, and my fine lines are just not fixable. I have no idea.

Final Thoughts

Until I find an eye cream that actually does improve fine line appearance, I am not going to hold this against the ones that do not. Maybe those fine lines are actually permanent.

In the meantime, this is a pretty good eye cream. I love how it works so well under makeup. I do not think I will repurchase right away since I am still on the hunt. However, I could certainly see myself coming back to this eye cream in the future if I don’t find anything better.
