31 Days of Reviews, Day 21: Sephora Collection PRO Featherweight Complexion Brush #90

quick take2.jpg

Hey everyone and welcome to day 21 of my review challenge. It’s hard to believe we’re getting close to the end! Today’s review is on a face brush, the Sephora Collection PRO Featherweight Complexion Brush #90. I use this brush to apply and blend my blush and spoiler alert, I love it. So here we go.

Packaging and First Impressions

The look of this brush is very sleek and professional. The black wooden handle is classic, with silver detailing and two-toned bristles. These bristles may be the softest thing you ever touch, which really gives it a luxurious and expensive feel. When I was first showed this brush in the store, I was like, “I want to brush this all over my body, all the time”. So, it’s safe to say that this brush is a total pleasure to use! An additional bonus is that these bristles are synthetic! Thank you for feeling like a bunny but not being made out of a bunny!

The price of this brush is definitely on the more expensive side (in my opinion), $43 CAD ($34 USD). In fact, it might be one of the most expensive brushes I own. However, the price of this brush fades in comparison to the other brushes offered at Sephora. When you look at the list of their face brushes, organized from highest price to lowest, you quickly realize that this brush is not all that expensive.

Here is a sampling of the most expensive brushes (in CAD $) offered at Sephora

Ultimately, it’s the quality that matters. $43 still feels like a lot to spend on a brush, even with these expensive examples. However, this is a tool that I have invested in and plan to use for years from now. So maybe $43 spread over 3-5 years is ok. What you need to decide when buying brushes is whether you want to be spending money on the brand name or the quality. Those can both go together, but sometimes they don’t. Clearly, with a Sephora Collection brush, the price should not be inflated due to brand name (in my opinion). We can only hope that the whole price pertains to the quality.

Here are the claims from the Sephora website:

“What it is:
A lightweight, precision brush for seamless application of foundation, blush, and bronzer.

What it does:
Featherweight Blending Brush is perfect for applying makeup to the face and cheeks. It can also be used for contouring and has multiple applications, so it can replace several face brushes in your makeup bag. The PRO Featherweight collection bristles have an exacting flexibility-to-stability ratio which provides an aerating effect during application for perfect product payoff. This brush works with powder, liquid, and cream formulas for a light, natural-looking effect.

What else you need to know:
This product is vegan, 100 percent synthetic, and not tested on animals.

This product is an Allure Best of Beauty award winner.”

I bought this brush with the purpose of being a blush brush. It is nice that this face brush can work for so many different purposes, like bronzer and contouring. However, I prefer a larger brush head for bronzing, and a smaller brush head for contouring. This size of brush is perfect for precise application of blush.

Like I mentioned earlier, the bristles on this brush are the softest I have ever felt. It is such a pleasure to use this in the morning after you have woken up. It feels like animal fur, without actually being made from animals.

This brush does a good job of picking up product. It is quite densely packed. However, it also diffuses the product so seamlessly and blends like a dream. I have only used this brush with powder blushes.  I can only imagine that it would work great with other powder products, but I can’t speculate about liquids and creams.

Final Thoughts

I love this brush and I am seriously considering purchasing the other brushes that are in the Featherweight line. There is a powder brush (#91), a crease brush (#38), a fan brush (#92) and a blending brush (#93). They are so nice to use and feel really luxurious and deluxe.

Have you used these brushes before? What do you think?
